The Ganges, also called the Ganga River, is the longest river of India and the third-longest river of South Asia. It forms at the confluence of Alaknanda and Bhagirathi river at Devprayag and runs over the Indian states of Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal before it splits into Padma and Bhagirathi Hooghly rivers. The Padma River flows into Bangladesh, while the Bhagirathi Hooghly River flows into West Bengal. Both distributaries eventually end at the Bay of Bengal, forming the Ganges Delta.
