35 mm slide; color. Scientific Classification: Kingdom: Animalia; Phylum: Chordata; Class: Aves; Order: Ciconiiformes; Family: Ciconiidae; Genus: Ciconia; Genus species: Ciconia episcopus. Animal characteristics: Head-Body Length: 75-91; Identification: The head and neck of the white-necked stork are woolly and white, except the forehead, which is blue/black. The belly is white, and the breast and upper parts are black. This stork has a white and black tail and a black bill with a red tip; Habitat: Moist woodlands, coastal mudflats, lagoons, and exposed coral reefs; Diet: Carnivore: large insects, lizards, frogs, crabs, fish; Reproduction: White-necked storks breed from August to November. The male and female both incubate 3-5 eggs for 31 days. Fledging occurs by the time the chicks are 55 days old; Social Structure: These birds are usually solitary or found in pairs; Behavior: The white-necked stork is usually silent but reputed to utter harsh, raucous cry when nesting; Status: No special status; Interesting Facts: This stork attends grass fires to collect burned insects and reptiles.
