Secretservice agents are believed to have assuredthe Kaiser of assistance from these men,but they had been misled. In the west,Gen. Botha, famous leader in the rebel-lion, subjugated the German colony.Kamerun and German East Africa werestronger in defense and it took a longerl)eriod to sulidue opposition. The cam-paign brought bitter figliting, as Germanofficers had trained an army of at least50,000 troops, but here the Boers also didthe greater share, aided by Portuguesecolonials. Under Gen.
