Summary
[edit]DescriptionSteam train leaving Drogheda cement factory.jpg |
English: Situated north of the River Boyne, the Drogheda Cement Factory opened in 1938. Rail connected to the Dublin – Belfast main line, it had no passenger service – so the sight of preserved former Great Southern & Western Railway steam locomotive No. 186 on an enthusiast special was somewhat unusual. Despite the signal aspect, the train is heading towards the camera.
The branch closed in the 1970s, but was briefly revived for the 1990s Dublin – Belfast line upgrade. Little trace now remains. After the passage of some 40 years, location is the best I can do. |
