Summary
[edit]DescriptionSteam train at Coolnamona - 1971 (geograph 3795237).jpg |
English: Steam train at Coolnamona - 1971 When the railway line from Port Laoise to Kilkenny closed on 1 January 1963, a 2.5 mile stub was retained south of Port Laoise to serve the Bord na Mόna peat moss factory at Coolnamona. However, even this short stub closed at some time in the 1990s, although the exact date is uncertain, and the area has since been redeveloped. The Railway Preservation Society of Ireland brought preserved ex-GS&WR 0.6.0 No. 186 to Coolnamona in April 1971 during the "Coolnamona" railtour and the train is seen positioned at the peat loading point. Due to the passage of time, location is approximate. |
