Description
English: The Hakodate Magistrate's Office inside the Goryokaku (star fort). Taken in winter, 1868, before the Battle of Hakodate. When the new government forces approached Hakodate, the bell tower of this headquarters became the target of naval gunfire, and the former Shogunate forces hurriedly demolished the bell tower.
日本語: 五稜郭内の箱館奉行所庁舎（函館市中央図書館蔵）、（1868年冬撮影）。新政府軍が箱館に迫ると、この本陣の鐘楼が艦砲射撃の標的となり、旧幕府軍では慌てて鐘楼を取り壊した。
