Description
Deutsch: Spitzen des Stephansdomes, Wien-Museum. Doppeladler und Kreuz, 1842. Aus dem Bestandc es ehemaligen Wiener Bürgerlichen Zeughauses. Anch dem Neubau der baufälligen Spitze des hohen Turmes von St. Stephan wurde am 20. Oktober 1842 eine neue Bekrönung angebracht. Das Herzschild des Doppeladlers zeigt das Wappen Habsburg-Lothringens und das Monogramm Kaiser Ferdinands. Dei Inschrifen wurden teils von der im alten Bekrönung übernommen, teils verweisen sie auf Kaier Ferdinand, Erzbischof Vincenz Milde und die an der Anfertigung und der Montages beteilgten Meister. Im Zuge neuerlicher Restaurierungs- und Ausbauarbeiten wurden Kreuz und Adler 1860 wieder abgenommen und durch die heute noch den Turm bekrönende Spitze, deren Doppeladler die Initialien Kaiser Franz Josephs trägt, ersetzt. Text: In te Domine Speravi, non confundar in Aeternum = Herr, mein Gott, ich setze mein Vertrauen in dich, machtest du mich gesund ewig. (Psalm 30:2, letzte Strophe des "Te Deum").
