Summary
[edit]DescriptionCrist I's influence on legendarium.svg |
English: The medieval poem Crist I's influence on Tolkien's legendarium, with its words Ēala ēarendel engla beorhtast / ofer middangeard monnum sended (Hail Earendel, brightest of angels, over Middle-earth to men sent). This set off ideas of the wandering mariner Eärendil, sailing to meet Elves in a faraway land, and his ship which ends up sailing the sky, with a bright star at its mast; and the name Middle-earth is a direct translation of middangeard. The poem has been called "the catalyst for Tolkien's mythology. |
