Deutsch: Detail einer Ornamentglas-Scheibe (um 2013). Ornament- bzw. Strukturglas wurde und wird meist zu dem schlichten Zweck verbaut, die Fenster von Badezimmern usw. transluzent, aber nicht transparent zu machen und so Schutz vor Blicken von außen nach innen zu gewähren. Umgekehrt, von innen nach außen gesehen, verzerrt die Ornamentierung die durchscheinende Außenwelt derart, dass – je nach Abstand, Betrachtungswinkel, Lichteinfall usw. – vielfältige abstrakte Muster entstehen.
Das Foto zeigt einen Auschnitt von ca. 8,5 × 5,7 cm. Die vertikalen Streifen werden durch die kannelierte Struktur des Ornamentglases erzeugt, das als Diffusor wirkt. Die Farben im Foto sind tatsächlich ein Bild der Außenwelt, aber eben durch das Glas stark diffundiert oder „abstrahiert“; das Rot stammt von den Dachziegeln eines Hauses, das Grün von den Pflanzen im Garten. Weil das Glas als Diffusor wirkt, besteht alles im Foto aus größeren und kleineren Verläufen. Ich finde es verblüffend, dass so etwas simples wie ein kanneliertes Ornamentglas, wenn man nur genau genug hinsieht, derart komplexen Verläufe zeigt und ein abstraktes Bild erzeugt.
English: The photo shows a detail of a window, ca. 8.5 × 5.7 cm (3.35 × 2.23 inch). The window pane is made from a simple kind of so-called decorative glass (a.k.a. patterned glass, textured or obscure glass), produced about 2013; the vertical stripes in the photo are produced by the fluted structure of the glass. The decorative glass acts as a diffuser. The colours you see in the photo are actually an image of the outside world, but heavily diffused or “abstracted” by the decorative glass; the red comes from the roof of a house, the green from the plants in the garden. Because the glass works as a diffuser, everything in the photo consists of smaller and larger gradations. IMHO it’s amazing that something as simple as a fluted window pane, if you only look closely enough, shows these complex gradients and creates an abstract image.
