Todas las imágenes en Commons tienen que estar dentro del ámbito o alcance del proyecto, lo que incluye que las imágenes deben ser de fin educativo (COM:EDUSE). Si las imágenes que estás generando con IA no son de un escudo usado por algún ente gubernamental, país, ejército, religión, grupo étnico, clan, o alguna otra entidad o grupo establecido de personas, entonces son escudos ficticios sin ningún fin educativo, y no están dentro del alcance de Commons. We could not determine whether this file is suitable for Wikimedia Commons. Please only upload photos that you took yourself with your camera, or see what else is acceptable. @LianIsland: I'm going to guess you tried a cross-wiki upload, possibly of a low-resolution image or one lacking EXIF data. Try uploading directly to Commons )Special:UploadWizard or Special:Upload, and please provide your full-resolution version of the photo. If you prefer a retouched version, upload that to overwrite the original (but don't do that just to make it smaller, we want the full resolution)! I am sorry to inform you that you have triggered Special:AbuseFilter/153 by trying to cross-wiki upload smaller (<50,000 bytes or <2,000,000 pixels) jpg photos as a new user. Each jpg photo you tried to upload is smaller, and you indicated it's your own work. Usually when someone uploads smaller photos, they are copyright violations taken from the web. If you took the photos yourself, please upload the full-size originals of them per COM:HR, including EXIF metadata. If you did not take the photos, please see Commons:Licensing for why we can't accept them, and have the photographer(s) license them on their official websites or social media or send the photos and permissions via VRT with carbon copies to you. If you can't get a compliant license, the photos may still be uploaded to English Wikipedia in compliance with en:WP:F because we don't allow Fair Use here. If you use our Upload Wizard instead, you should be able to avoid that filter. Commons:Wiki Loves Monuments 2024 in Bangladesh does not mention any prizes beyond a certificate and the possibility that for all of Bangladesh ten photos will be submitted to the international WLM. Commons:Wiki Loves Monuments 2024. https://www.wikilovesmonuments.org/awards/ indicates that, from that international contest, ten people in the world will win substantial prizes, ranging from an "up to €300 in in-kind prize" to an "p to €2000 in in-kind prize".

There will be thousands, probably tens of thousands, of participants worldwide, and ten will win prizes of value. If participating is it's own reward, great, but unless you are basically a professional-level photographer, I would guess that you should not have a serious expectation that one of you pictures will be selected as one of the ten best pictures in a world-wide contest. - Jmabel ! talk 15:24, 17 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

For Commons, the photograph would need to be freely-licensed or public domain. If you just intend for it to be used locally on a Wikipedia article, check your Wikipedia's policy on non-free media. It is just a photograph taken with a 35mm camera by a friend in the 70s. The photo was found going through an Estate sale. The photo is not published. It was sent to me by a friend of the deceased. No way to know when the photographer died, since we're not exactly sure who took the picture. Using the term "photographer" here is a stretch. You say the photographer is dead, but you also say you don't know who the photographer is. That doesn't make sense. The 1970s is not so long ago that you could usually presume that. My oldest image here on Commons is one I took in 1966. For the record, I am not dead.

If you are correct that the photographer is dead, then in most countries (you don't say where this is) the rights would belong to the heir to the intellectual property of the deceased photographer. For a photo that is currently unpublished, those rights would persist until the photographer has been dead 70 years. If you don't know who that is, I'm afraid you are stuck with an "orphaned" image in terms of rights: someone owns the rights, you have no way to find that person, so you have no way to clear the rights. - Jmabel ! talk 20:15, 17 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Krok6kola: As far as I can tell, all the files in Category:Media needing categories as of 17 October 2024 whose names start with "Casa" still have the {{Uncategorized}} template. You do actually need to follow the instructions I posted above to remove it. Hi Londonopera, this is because you haven't added a licensing template to the file. But, now, since you are not the copyright holder, the file will require a permission release via COM:VRT process. I suggest that you simply remove that template from that category page. I am having an extremely strange problem with the automatic citation tool. I've been away from editing for a while so maybe some things have changed? I've done several academic pages before with no problem at all but for the page I was just working on I found a very good quality recent citation (New York Times, last year) but the generator won't recognize the url. So I tried a different one (Chronicle of Higher Education) and... it also won't work. I decided to leave this page and try editing a different article but encountered the same problem (again with the Times). I am happy to add manual citations but it seems pretty bizarre that such prominent sources don't seem to working. Are there any tools that do a simple 90° rotation and upload the result under a new name? File:Kardemummaskorpor.jpg is a vertical/portrait image, and I would really prefer a horizontal/landscape copy of this image for w:en:Sju sorters kakor. Other people might well prefer the vertical format, so I don't want to take that away from them.

@Robkelk: It's hard to do a single search that will be perfect for that. Do see Help:Searching and en:Help:Searching. If the license is in the structured data, then you can certainly find that with a search. For example, you can find all the CC-0 licenses with "haswbstatement:P275=Q6938433". Otherwise you can search for "insource:{{CC-0", "insource:{{PD", and other license strings that might imaginably qualify. For example, consider simultaneous publication for an image first published in 1927 (so out of copyright in the U.S.) and whose author died in 1950 (so PD in pma +70 countries, but not in pma +80 countries).    Problème: la page de couverture n'apparait plus, remplacée par une sorte de A en rouge (voir sur: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:ANCIENS_DU_GUE_VERSION_DU_20_JUILLET_2024.pdf ).
   Question: est-il possible de la restituer sans supprimer le PDF?

La Category:Orthophotos from Navarre by Julio Ruiz de Alda incluye 1.511 imágnes, lo que dificulta buscar una imagen concreta.

Me propuse distribuirlas en subcategorías (utilizando para eso el número de la Hoja del mapa de IGN en que se sitúan). Así he creado Category:JRA en Hoja 113, categorizada en Category:Orthophotos from Navarre by Julio Ruiz de Alda.

Pero al intentar trasladar, por medio de Gadet-Cat-a-lt/es , las imágenes correspondientes desde Orthophotos from Navarre by Julio Ruiz de Alda a RA en Hoja 113, el gadet me da el siguiente mensaje: "Se omitieron las páginas siguientes porque no se encontró la categoría vieja", y efectivamente no se produce el traslado.

Como he utilizado ese gadet en muchos otros casos, preguntó ¿es que la página de Category:Orthophotos from Navarre by Julio Ruiz de Alda está protegida, y hacen falta algún permiso para mover las imágenes?. @JLVwiki: me parece que una división como "Hoja 113" no estaría útil para el usuario final. Si no hay el libro en sus manos, ¿como se puede saber en cual hoja es una foto especifíca? Muchas gracias por su respuesta, @Jmabel: Las Hojas a que me refiero son las utilizadas en los mapas del ING (Instituto Geográfico Nacional), de España. Por otra parte, en el inicio de la Category:Orthophotos from Navarre by Julio Ruiz de Alda e incluido una imagen con la mapa de Navarra dividido en las Hojas (File:Hojas mapa 150 Navarra.jpg).

En todo caso, seguiré su gerencia y categorizaré cada hoja por el nombre geográfico con el que el ING asocia a cada una; así Category:JRA en Hoja 113 la he categorizado como Category:Maps of Olazagutía-Olazti

Category:JRA en Hoja 113 está mal nombrado. Debe ser Category:Orthophotos from Navarre by Julio Ruiz de Alda, Hoja 113 o algo semejante. Un nombre de categoría nunca debe presuponer un contexto, por lo que "JRA" está mal elegido. Además: ¿qué pasaría si tuviéramos una hoja con el mismo número para una provincia diferente?

Para File:113 08 Julio Ruiz de Aldaren hegaldia (1927-1934).jpg (y, por supuesto, las otras fotos en Category:JRA en Hoja 113, pero no examiné los otros), Category:Orthophotos from Navarre by Julio Ruiz de Alda derive de la plantilla Template:1927ko hegaldia. Category:Cingnian Night Market has been created for many times, but it's actually never used (empty page). Currently, there is a user creating this category: "Cingnian Night Market, Kaohsiung". As you can see, the category is empty. This shows someone is creating them over and over again. The file name you were trying to upload has been blacklisted because it is very common, uninformative, or spelled in ALLCAPS. Please go back and choose a better file name. When uploading files to Wikimedia Commons, please use a file name that describes the content of the image or media file you're uploading and is sufficiently distinctive that no-one else is likely to pick the same name by accident.

Nowadays when I upload an image, let's say this one, I seem to get two edits generated in the "History", the first for the upload itself ("Uploaded own work with UploadWizard") and then immediately followed by another apparently auto-generated by the system, labelled something like "Changed label, description and/or aliases in en". It says that this second edit has added 231 bytes, or whatever, but when I click on the diff to see what has actually happened, it says "No changes". Does anyone know the purpose of this second edit? The second edit is due to the way Upload wizard handles page creation. The edit added the caption, I'm unsure why it shows no changes on your view. I appreciate the concern, but its just the way image upload works, (there are other reasons, but its mainly for antivandalism/abuse filtering captions) and is completely normal. Alle diese Bilder wurden um 1880-1920 erstellt, daher wäre meine Vermutung, dass ich gar keine Urheberschaft/Recht am Bild mehr angeben muss, da sie mittlerweile gemeinfrei sind. Stimmt das? Assuming you are using the UploadWizard, it lets you choose from three licences. Following all the steps, check out the "Creative Commons CC0 Waiver" (learn more) button. When submitting something for QI, the template asks to add a "very short description", but every now and then someone thinks this means 100 words or more. Because QI entries are vertically aligned, this creates a very lengthy entry to scroll past. Would regular Commons users be permitted to trim these down to a more reasonable size? @ReneeWrites, we are talking about the "Nomination" field for items at Commons:Quality images candidates. Currently the description is a signed comment so I don't think it is a good idea to edit them. Also, doesn't the discussion also take up a lot of vertical space sometimes? You could ask continual perpetrators to reduce their description lengths on their user talk pages I guess. Are you viewing on a desktop browser? On a mobile device, either in mobile mode or desktop mode, the long boxes don't bother me so much. I vaguely recall it looking odd on my computer though. Anyhoo, I am not a QI reviewer so my opinion doesn't count for much, I just peruse the page from time to time. Perhaps a technical solution would be to wrap the nom. and review in an expandable box with a [show more] button, thus all items would get the same vertical length. But one thing you can do (and this is most likely what you're trying to achieve, anyway) is replace the old logo with the current one on the projects it's used on. Hello!

There is a video that has been uploaded to YouTube under a Creative Commons licence, however in the description the channel claims that it has copyright over it. I was just wondering which copyright applies and if I can upload the video to Wikipedia Commons so that some images can be extracted from it.

Alright thank you guys! that cleared a lot of things up. Sorry if this is annoying (just want to be careful you know) I do have one other video where I'm unsure about uploading it to Wikipedia Commons. It's titled "ලාල් කාන්ත කියන කතා නෙමෙයි අනුර කුමාර කියන්නේ - තිස්ස අත්තනායක". The reason I ask is, despite the video being released under a creative commons license the description says "All rights reserved. No part of this video may be reproduced or transmitted in any form or by any means, electronic, mechanical, recording, or otherwise, without prior written permission of Independent Television Network Ltd". Again sorry if this is a stupid question or should be straightforward, I'm just confused on why some organizations would claim "no part of this video may be reproduced... or transmitted in any form" and also release it under a creative commons license. Pretty much anything with a Creative Commons license is copyrighted; otherwise, the license would be completely redundant. I'm going to be uploading a couple dozen images similar to File:Connection Machine CM-2 and DataVault at Computer Museum of America.png and have a few questions to make sure I'm following best practices on those future uploads:

• I'm not sure when to use Template:Archival version. Is it (still) good practice to upload two separate copies of images, with the advent of webp?
• I'm not sure that it is OK to use webp with Template:Compressed version. I thought it might adapt the text since there is a deprecated "filetype" parameter in the template, but instead, the template erroneously names the webp version as being a JPEG.
• I had hoped that by uploading a webp thumbnail, the image rendered in the infobox might retain a transparent background, so that it had better compatibility with Wikipedia's (relatively new) dark mode option. Unfortunately, on w:Connection Machine, the infobox thumbnail renders transparency as white. Is there a way to avoid this?
• Anything else I did wrong?

If I were doing this, I would one or another way upload the straight-from-the-camera photo as well. Not sure what the "best practice" is to do that for a PNG, but File:Gheorghe Petrașcu - K. H. I would like to do that, but unfortunately the base of these images was a NEF file, which is a non‑free image format that Wikimedia can't accept. NEF is not merely a type of proprietary JPEG, but actually contains useful information to resample the photo with different exposure etc, pulling out information that can't be derived from the "Raw JPEG" that I also had the camera save at the same time. I'll likely upload these base NEF files to my personal website under the same CC BY-SA 4.0 license, and could include an external link to them on Wikimedia, if there's precedence for doing so. Normally it doesn't matter much to have the raw NEF, so I can understand that no one has been particularly interested in creating a template to provide the functionality of facilitating external link to source RAW File, but this object in particular really needs it, further than just being a hypothetical "best practice".

The Connection Machine CM-2 casing is Black, contrasting heavily with the array of bright and rapidly flashing red LEDs, making it a challenging object to photograph. It requires very high dynamic range, which DSLR cameras are not known for. Film photography does a lot better when high dynamic range is required (see the copyrighted image of this object at https://www.tamikothiel.com/cm/), while my poor $5000 2015 era DSLR needs every advantage it can get to try to compete, still struggling a bit with the varying angle of the LEDs in the final result. The "Raw JPEG" version of this exact same photo is a blurry mess where it is hard to discern any single LED, and it was only after processing the NEF that I realized I did actually get an acceptable shot of the CM-2.

I'm able to make a Template:RAW image link as long as it's not going to get me in trouble. It would probably be better if someone more established & familiar with Wikimedia culture were to make the template instead. — Hubcapp (talk) 04:16, 25 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Short version: you are out of luck.

Long version: It appears from English Wikipedia you successfully uploaded File:Quentin Dean as 'Delores Purdy'.jpg. Which directly ended up here at Wikimedia Commons which only accepts free content. However, you selected a licence for the file indicating "own work", and unless you made the film that is not correct. More likely, if it is a screenshot from a copyrighted film it is not free and will soon get deleted from Commons.

I think it is technically possible for you to insert the picture into the English Wikipedia article, but as I said it will get deleted here and then disappear from there too.

You might be able to find a freely licensed photo of Quentin Dean here already, or upload one you find.

If you want someone to source a free photo of this person you can request it, just let us know if you want help with the requests process.

Hello. Generally, you visit a website and check for a "Copyright" section (usually there is a link at the bottom of the website) explaining if content is available under a free license.

For example the State of Queensland, Australia says CC BY 4.0 on its copyright page so most of the material is ok for Commons.

Brazil's Government website says at the bottom "All content on this site is published under license Creative Commons Attribution-NoDerivs 3.0 Unported." - not a free licence so not ok for Commons.

"© 2024 All Rights Reserved" means not free so not ok for Commons.

Is there a specific website you want us to look at?

@Zanjar Records: The account Zanja Records does exist. It was created in 2020 and its sole surviving contribution to Commons was to upload File:Zanja Records.tif. Last night, I was emailed that someone had logged in to my account from a new device, an action I did not do. I have tried to change my password on the page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:ChangePassword multiple times. But when I click the blue “Change Credentials” button, it just brings me back to that same page, without any confirmation that my password was changed. As a result, I cannot change my password.
