  91. Source: Authors’ calculations based on the March Supplement to the Current Population Survey. Annual wage and salary income is adjusted for top-coding and converted to 2017 dollars using the Personal Consumption Expenditures deflator. Hourly earnings are computed by dividing annual earnings by total hours worked (the product of weeks worked and usual hours worked per week). Before the 1976 survey, weeks worked and usual hours worked per week are imputed using demographic information in conjunction with information on bracketed weeks worked and hours worked last week. Within each education status, a re-weighting procedure is employed to hold the age distribution constant across each year. See the online Appendix for further details. Geometric average hourly wages are computed as the exponential of the average of log hourly wages. Graph presents 3-year centered moving averages.
