I also have a box of affordable pastels from @blickartmaterials. I am never one to spend a lot on art supplies but I got the Sennelier as a gift and used both in this video. I can’t even compare the two. Sennelier is like melty butter and almost melt under pressure making them so easy to blend with fingers. Once the pigment gets warm from my hand they blend almost like paint. You need the tiniest amount for amazing pigmentation. The cheaper ones you really have to build up to get the same amount of saturation, but they are perfect for sketches, composition blocking, and base layering. 2. When planning for this painting I actually had a different idea in mind of the window being only a smaller detail. The reference photo I planned had more objects in the foreground, however I decided to follow a feeling that I have had for a while - zooming in and look closer at a few objects rather than a whole room and a character. It felt refreshing to work in a faster phase.
