The FIRST (Fragmentation of Ions Relevant for Space and Therapy) experiment at GSI has been designed to study carbon fragmentation, measuring (12)C double differential cross sections (- (2)I /- - E) for different beam energies between 100 and 1000 MeV/u. The experimental setup integrates newly designed detectors in the, so called, Interaction Region around the graphite target. [...]

LEMMA approach for the production of low-emittance muon beams / Amapane, N (U. Rome La Sapienza (main)) ; Antonelli, M (Frascati) ; Anulli, F (INFN, Rome) ; Ballerini, G (U. Rome La Sapienza (main)) ; Bandiera, L (INFN, Ferrara) ; Bartosik, N (INFN, Turin) ; Bertolin, A (INFN, Padua) ; Biino, C (INFN, Turin) ; Blanco-Garcia, O R (Frascati) ; Boscolo, M (Frascati) et al.
This work introduces an experimental test of the new proposal for a low–emittance muon accelerator (LEMMA). A low–emittance muon beam is obtained from the e$^+$ e$^-$ → μ$^+$ μ$^-$ annihilation process at the threshold energy of 45 GeV eliminating the need for a dedicated muon cooling system. [...]

First demonstration of in-beam performance of bent Monolithic Active Pixel Sensors / ALICE ITS project Collaboration
A novel approach for designing the next generation of vertex detectors foresees to employ wafer-scale sensors that can be bent to truly cylindrical geometries after thinning them to thicknesses of 20-40$\mu$m. To solidify this concept, the feasibility of operating bent MAPS was demonstrated using 1.5$\times$3cm ALPIDE chips. [...]

Latest results on radiation tolerance of diamond detectors / RD42 Collaboration
At present most experiments at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) are planning upgrades in the next 5-10 years for their innermost tracking layers as well as luminosity monitors to be able to take data as the luminosity increases and CERN moves toward the High Luminosity-LHC (HL-LHC). These upgrades will most likely require more radiation tolerant technologies than exist today. [...]
