Results of the $^{244}$Cm, $^{246}$Cm and $^{248}$Cm neutron-induced capture cross sections measurements at EAR1 and EAR2 of the n_TOF facility
/ nTOF Collaboration
Accurate neutron capture cross section data for minor actinides (MAs) are required to estimate the production and transmutation rates of MAs in light water reactors, critical fast reactors like Gen-IV systems, and other innovative reactor systems such as accelerator driven systems (ADS). In particular, 244Cm, 246Cm and 248Cm play a role in the transport, storage and transmutation of the nuclear waste of the current nuclear reactors, due to the contribution of these isotopes to the radiotoxicity, neutron emission, and decay heat in the spent nuclear fuel. Measurement of the $^{244}Cm$ and $^{246}Cm$ neutron-induced capture cross sections at the n_TOF facility
/ Alcayne, V (Madrid, CIEMAT) ; Kimura, A (JAERI, Tokai) ; Mendoza, E (Madrid, CIEMAT) ; Cano-Ott, D (Madrid, CIEMAT) ; Martínez, T (Madrid, CIEMAT) ; Aberle, O (CERN) ; Andrzejewski, J (Lodz U.) ; Audouin, L (Orsay, IPN) ; Bécares, V (Madrid, CIEMAT) ; Bacak, M (CERN ; IRFU, Saclay ; Vienna, Tech. U.) et al.
The neutron capture reactions of the $^{244}$Cm and $^{246}$Cm isotopes open the path for the formation of heavier Cm isotopes and heavier elements such as Bk and Cf in a nuclear reactor. In addition, both isotopes belong to the minor actinides with a large contribution to the decay heat and to the neutron emission in irradiated fuels. [...]

Accurate neutron capture cross section data for minor actinides (MAs) are required to estimate the production and transmutation rates of MAs in light water reactors with a high burnup, critical fast reactors like Gen-IV systems and other innovative reactor systems such as accelerator driven systems (ADS). /n_TOF
The experimental area 2 (EAR-2) at CERNs neutron time-of-flight facility (n_TOF), which is operational since 2014, is designed and built as a short-distance complement to the experimental area 1 (EAR-1). The Parallel Plate Avalanche Counter (PPAC) monitor experiment was performed to characterize the beam profile and the shape of the neutron flux at EAR-2. [...]
