A novel generation of fast Beam Wire Scanners (BWS), developed in the framework of the LHC Injectors Upgrade (LIU), has been recently deployed in the 3 LHC injector synchrotrons, accelerating protons from 160 MeV to 450 GeV, during the 2019-2020 LHC long shutdown. The monitors feature high precision motor controller, high resolution wire position monitoring and wide dynamic range secondary particles detectors. [...]

Commissioning of the LHC Injectors Upgrade fast wire scanners and first experimental results / Di Carlo, S (CERN) ; Emery, J (CERN) ; Andreazza, W (CERN) ; Belohrad, D (CERN) ; Esteban Felipe, J C (CERN) ; Goldblatt, A (CERN) ; Gudkov, D (CERN) ; Guerrero, A (CERN) ; Jackson, S (CERN) ; Lacarrere, G O (CERN) et al.
The LHC Injectors Upgrade (LIU) program included new fast beam wire scanners (BWS) to meet the requirements of the higher brightness and intensity High Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) beams. Seventeen LIU BWS have been installed during the LHC second long shutdown (LS2) and they are currently used in the daily operations of the LHC injectors. [...]

Performance Assessment of Pre-Series Fast Beam Wire Scanner Prototypes for the Upgrade of the CERN LHC Injector Complex / Sirvent, Jose (CERN) ; Andersson, Patrik (CERN) ; Andreazza, William (CERN) ; Dehning, Bernd (CERN) ; Emery, Jonathan (CERN) ; Garcia, Lionel (CERN) ; Gudkov, Dmitry (CERN) ; Roncarolo, Federico (CERN) ; Tassan-Viol, Jean (CERN) ; Trad, Georges (CERN) et al.
A new generation of beam wire scanner (BWS), for transversal beam profile monitoring, is under development on the framework of the LHC Injector Upgrade project at CERN. Two pre-series prototypes have been built and installed in the Super Proton Synchrotron and Proton Synchrotron Booster, to assess the performance of the upgraded BWS concept. [...]

The Digital Signal Processing Chain of the CERN LIU BWS / Belohrad, David (CERN) ; Emery, Jonathan (CERN) ; Esteban Felipe, Jose (CERN) ; Goldblatt, Aurélie (CERN) ; Guerrero, Ana (CERN) ; Martin Nieto, Miguel (CERN) ; Roncarolo, Federico (CERN)
Between 2019 and 2023, as part of the LHC Injectors Upgrade (LIU), a major renovation of the CERN wire scanners (BWS) was performed. The main driving force was to prepare the wire scanners for the High-Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC), during which the instantaneous luminosity is expected to double, to around 5× 10³⁴cm⁻²s⁻¹. [...]

Installation and Test of Pre-series Wire Scanners for the LHC Injector Upgrade Project at CERN / Veness, Raymond (CERN) ; Andersson, Patrik (CERN) ; Andreazza, William (CERN) ; Chritin, Nicolas (CERN) ; Dehning, Bernd (CERN) ; Emery, Jonathan (CERN) ; Goldblatt, Aurélie (CERN) ; Gudkov, Dmitry (CERN) ; Roncarolo, Federico (CERN) ; Sirvent, Jose (CERN) et al.
A new generation of fast wire scanners is being developed for the LHC Injectors Upgrade (LIU) project at CERN. These will be essential tools for transverse profile measurement with the higher brightness LIU beams, and are planned for installation in 2019 in all three synchrotrons making up the LHC injector chain.
