Barrier bucket studies in the CERN PS / Vadai, Mihaly (Queen Mary, U. of London (main) ; CERN) ; Alomainy, Akram (Queen Mary, U. of London (main)) ; Damerau, Heiko (CERN)
Part of the residual beam loss during the Multi-Turn Extraction (MTE) of fixed target beams from the CERN Proton Synchrotron (PS) can be attributed to kicker magnets switching while the beam is coasting with the main radio frequency (RF) systems off before extraction. Generating a barrier bucket to deplete the longitudinal line density of the coasting beam during the kicker rise time can reduce these losses. [...]

Beam manipulations with barrier buckets in the CERN PS / Vadai, Mihaly (Queen Mary, U. of London (main) ; CERN) ; Alomainy, Akram (Queen Mary, U. of London (main)) ; Damerau, Heiko (CERN) ; Gilardoni, Simone (CERN) ; Giovannozzi, Massimo (CERN) ; Huschauer, Alexander (CERN)
A barrier bucket scheme is being considered to reduce losses during the Multi-Turn Extraction from the CERN Proton Synchrotron to the Super Proton Synchrotron for the fixed-target physics programme. For effective loss reduction, the extraction kicker has to be triggered during the gap at the time of the longitudinal barrier. [...]

Implementation of RF Channeling at the CERN PS for Spill Quality Improvements / Arrutia Sota, Pablo Andreas (CERN) ; Burrows, Philip (JAI, UK) ; Damerau, Heiko (CERN) ; Fraser, Matthew (CERN) ; Vadai, Mihaly (CERN) ; Velotti, Francesco (CERN)
Resonant slow extraction from synchrotrons aims at providing constant intensity spills over timescales much longer than the revolution period of the machine. However, the extracted intensity is undesirably modulated by noise on the machine’s power converters with a frequency range of between 50 Hz and a few kHz. [...]

Intensity reach of the barrier-bucket multi-turn transfer for fixed-target proton beam from PS to SPS / Damerau, Heiko (CERN) ; Huschauer, Alexander (CERN) ; Lasheen, Alexandre (CERN) ; Cuvelier, Matis (CERN ; U. Paris-Saclay) ; Vadai, Mihaly (CERN) ; Prebibaj, Tirsi (CERN)
Fixed target beams are extracted in five turns from the Proton Synchrotron (PS) at CERN to fill almost half the circumference of the Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS) with each transfer. To avoid beam loss during the risetime of the extraction kickers a longitudinal gap is generated with an RF barrier-bucket scheme. [...]

Barrier bucket and transversely split beams for loss-free multi-turn extraction in synchrotrons / Vadai, M (CERN ; Queen Mary, U. of London (main)) ; Alomainy, A (Queen Mary, U. of London (main)) ; Damerau, H (CERN) ; Gilardoni, S (CERN) ; Giovannozzi, M (CERN) ; Huschauer, A (CERN)
A special radio-frequency manipulation has been studied and successfully implemented at the CERN Proton Synchrotron for the first time. This technique aims at depleting a well-defined fraction of a continuous longitudinal beam distribution by creating a so-called barrier bucket. [...]

Implementation of synchronised PS-SPS transfer with barrier buckets / Vadai, M. (CERN) ; Damerau, H. (CERN) ; Giovannozzi, M. (CERN) ; Huschauer, A. (CERN) ; Lasheen, A. (CERN)
For the future intensity increase of the fixed-target beams in the CERN accelerator complex, a barrier-bucket scheme has been developed to reduce the beam loss during the 5-turn extraction from the PS towards the SPS, the so-called Multi-Turn Extraction. [...]

Barrier bucket gymnastics and transversely split proton beams: Performance at the CERN Proton and Super Proton Synchrotrons / Vadai, M (CERN ; Queen Mary, U. of London) ; Alomainy, A (Queen Mary, U. of London) ; Damerau, H (CERN) ; Giovannozzi, M (CERN) ; Huschauer, A (CERN)
During the 2018 proton run, a new radio-frequency beam manipulation has been studied and successfully implemented at the CERN Proton Synchrotron (PS) for the first time. This technique is used to deplete a well-defined fraction of a continuous longitudinal beam distribution by creating a so-called barrier bucket. [...]

Progress in the Bunch-to-Bucket Transfer Implementation for FAIR / Ferrand, Thibault (Darmstadt, Tech. Hochsch.) ; Bachmann, Oliver (Darmstadt, Tech. U.) ; Bai, Jiaoni (Darmstadt, GSI) ; Damerau, Heiko (CERN) ; Klingbeil, Harald (Darmstadt, Tech. Hochsch. ; Darmstadt, GSI)
The transfer of bunched ion beams between various synchrotrons is required for the multi-accelerator complex FAIR, presently under construction at GSI. To avoid a dedicated distribution infrastructure for radiofrequency (RF) signals between each source and destination synchrotron, a new approach has been developed to transmit bunch and bucket phase information using synchronous Ethernet. Improvement of the Longitudinal Beam Transfer from PS to SPS at CERN / Lasheen, Alexandre (CERN) ; Damerau, Heiko (CERN) ; Repond, Joël (CERN) ; Schwarz, Markus (CERN) ; Shaposhnikova, Elena (CERN)
The beam transfer from the Proton Synchrotron (PS) to the Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS) at CERN is a critical process for the production of beams for the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). A bunch-to-bucket transfer is performed with the main drawback that the rf frequency in the SPS (200 MHz) is five times higher than the one in the PS (40 MHz). [...]
