Second-order QCD effects in Higgs boson production through vector boson fusion / Cruz-Martinez, J. (Durham U., IPPP) ; Gehrmann, T. (Zurich U.) ; Glover, E.W.N. (Durham U., IPPP) ; Huss, A. (CERN)
We compute the factorising second-order QCD corrections to the electroweak production of a Higgs boson through vector boson fusion. Our calculation is fully differential in the kinematics of the Higgs boson and of the final state jets, and uses the antenna subtraction method to handle infrared singular configurations in the different parton-level contributions. Next-to-leading order QCD corrections to Higgs boson production in association with a photon via weak-boson fusion at the LHC / Arnold, Ken (KIT, Karlsruhe) ; Figy, Terrance (CERN) ; Jager, Barbara (Wurzburg U.) ; Zeppenfeld, Dieter (KIT, Karlsruhe, TP)
Higgs boson production in association with a hard central photon and two forward tagging jets is expected to provide valuable information on Higgs boson couplings in a range where it is difficult to disentangle weak-boson fusion processes from large QCD backgrounds. We present next-to-leading order QCD corrections to Higgs production in association with a photon via weak-boson fusion at a hadron collider in the form of a flexible parton-level Monte Carlo program. Incorporating next-to-leading order matrix elements for hadronic diboson production in showering event generators / Dobbs, M (Victoria U.)
A method for incorporating information from next-to-leading order QCD matrix elements for hadronic diboson production into showering event generators is presented. In the hard central region (high jet transverse momentum) where perturbative QCD is reliable, events are sampled according to the first order tree level matrix element. [...]

The automated computation of tree-level and next-to-leading order differential cross sections, and their matching to parton shower simulations / Alwall, J. (Taiwan, Natl. Taiwan U.) ; Frederix, R. (Illinois U., Urbana) ; Torrielli, P. (Zurich U.) ; Zaro, M. (Paris U., IV ; Paris, LPTHE)
We discuss the theoretical bases that underpin the automation of the computations of tree-level and next-to-leading order cross sections, of their matching to parton shower simulations, and of the merging of matched samples that differ by light-parton multiplicities. We present a computer program, MadGraph5_aMC@NLO, capable of handling all these computations -- parton-level fixed order, shower-matched, merged -- in a unified framework whose defining features are flexibility, high level of parallelisation, and human intervention limited to input physics quantities. A Positive-Weight Next-to-Leading Order Monte Carlo Simulation of Drell-Yan Vector Boson Production / Hamilton, Keith (Louvain U.) ; Richardson, Peter (Durham U. ; CERN) ; Tully, Jon (Durham U.)
The positive weight next-to-leading-order (NLO) matching scheme (POWHEG) is applied to Drell-Yan vector boson production in the Herwig++ Monte Carlo event generator. This approach consistently combines the NLO calculation and parton shower simulation, without the production of negative weight events. [...]

We review the physics basis, main features and use of general-purpose Monte Carlo event generators for the simulation of proton-proton collisions at the Large Hadron Collider. Topics included are: the generation of hard-scattering matrix elements for processes of interest, at both leading and next-to-leading QCD perturbative order; their matching to approximate treatments of higher orders based on the showering approximation; the parton and dipole shower formulations; parton distribution functions for event generators; non-perturbative aspects such as soft QCD collisions, the underlying event and diffractive processes; the string and cluster models for hadron formation; the treatment of hadron and tau decays; the inclusion of QED radiation and beyond-Standard-Model processes. Azimuthal correlations in high pT processes with the TMD parton branching method at NLO / van Kampen, Mees (Antwerp U.) ; Martinez, A Bermudez (DESY) ; Banos, L I Estevez (DESY) ; Hautmann, F (Antwerp U. ; CERN ; Oxford U.) ; Jung, H (DESY) ; Mendizabal, M (DESY) ; Figueroa, K Moral (Edinburgh U.) ; Prestel, S (Lund U.) ; Monfared, S Taheri (DESY) ; Wang, Q (DESY ; Peking U.) et al.
We discuss our recent results on azimuthal distributions in vector boson + jets and multi-jet production at the LHC, obtained from the matching of next-to-leading order (NLO) perturbative matrix elements with transverse momentum dependent (TMD) parton branching. We present a comparative analysis of boson-jet and jet-jet correlations in the back to-back region, and a study of the theoretical systematic uncertainties associated with the matching scale in the cases of TMD and collinear parton showers..

NLO matrix elements and truncated showers / Hoche, Stefan (Zurich U.) ; Krauss, Frank (Durham U., IPPP ; CERN) ; Schonherr, Marek (Dresden, Tech. U.) ; Siegert, Frank (Durham U., IPPP ; University Coll. London)
In this publication, an algorithm is presented that combines the ME+PS approach to merge sequences of tree-level matrix elements into inclusive event samples with the POWHEG method, which combines exact next-to-leading order matrix element results with the parton shower. It was developed in parallel to the MENLOPS technique and has been implemented in the event generator Sherpa. [...]
