The Multigap Resistive Plate Chamber (MRPC) is a gaseous detector that has low building costs and excellent timing performances. It is usually operated using a mixture of C$_2$F$_4$H$_2$ and SF$_6$, which have very high Global Warming Potential (GWP) values (1430 and 23,900 respectively). [...]

Crispin S. (Gangneung-Wonju Natl. U. ; CERN ; INFN, Bologna ; U. Bologna, DIFA) ; Zuyeuski, Roman (World Lab., Geneva ; Enrico Fermi Ctr., Rome)
The Multigap Resistive Plate Chambers (MRPC) are used as a timing detector in several particle physics and cosmic ray experiments. The gas mixture of MRPC at current experiments is a mixture containing $\rm C_2F_4H_2$ and in some cases $\rm SF_6$ [...]

A Multigap Resistive Plate Chamber built with thin low-resistive glass: High rate capability with excellent time resolution
/ Liu, Z (CERN ; World Lab., Geneva) ; Williams, M C S (CERN ; Gangneung-Wonju Natl. U. ; INFN, Bologna ; Bologna U.) ; Zichichi, A (CERN ; INFN, Bologna ; Bologna U. ; Enrico Fermi Ctr., Rome) ; Zuyeuski, R (World Lab., Geneva ; Enrico Fermi Ctr., Rome)
Two Multigap Resistive Plate Chambers (MRPCs) were built with thin (0.4 mm) low-resistive glass sheets for the inner plates and standard 0.28 mm ‘soda lime’ float glass as external plates. The 6-gap MRPC reaches 96.5% efficiency at 15.6 kV and a time resolution of 68 ps at an instantaneous particle flux around 2.5 kHz/cm 2 . [...]

Study of the ecological gas for MRPCs

The Multigap Resistive Plate Chamber (MRPC) is a gaseous detector; the performance depends very much on the gas mixture as well as the design. MRPCs are used as a timing device in several collider experiments and cosmic ray experiments thanks to the excellent timing performance. [...]

Multigap Resistive Plate Chambers (MRPCs) are often used as time-of-flight (TOF) detectors for high-energy physics and nuclear experiments thanks to their excellent time accuracy. For the Compressed Baryonic Matter (CBM) TOF system, MRPCs are required to work at particle fluxes on the order of 1–10 kHz/cm$^2$ for the outer region and 10–25 kHz/cm$^2$ for the central region.
