The Shunt-LDO regulator to power the upgraded ATLAS pixel detector / Gonella, L (UBONN) ; Barbero, M (UBONN) ; Hügging, F (UBONN) ; Krüger, H (UBONN) ; Wermes, N (UBONN)
The shunt-LDO regulator is a new regulator concept which combines a shunt and a Low Drop-Out (LDO) regulator. Designed as an improved shunt regulator to match the needs of serially powered detector systems, it can also be used as a pure LDO regulator for general application in powering schemes requiring linear regulation. Advanced power analysis methodology targeted to the optimization of a digital pixel readout chip design and its critical serial powering system / Marconi, S (Perugia U. ; INFN, Perugia ; CERN) ; Orfanelli, S (CERN) ; Karagounis, M (Dortmund U.) ; Hemperek, T (Bonn U.) ; Christiansen, J (CERN) ; Placidi, P (Perugia U. ; INFN, Perugia)
A dedicated power analysis methodology, based on modern digital design tools and integrated with the VEPIX53 simulation framework developed within RD53 collaboration, is being used to guide vital choices for the design and optimization of the next generation ATLAS and CMS pixel chips and their critical serial powering circuit (shunt-LDO). Power consumption is studied at different stages of the design flow under different operating conditions. [...]

Serial powering optimization for CMS and ATLAS pixel detectors within RD53 collaboration for HL-LHC: system level simulations and testing / Orfanelli, Stella (CERN) ; Christiansen, Jorgen (CERN) ; Hamer, Matthias (U. Bonn (main)) ; Hinterkeuser, F (U. Serial powering is the baseline choice for low mass power distribution for the CMS and ATLAS HL-LHC pixel detectors. Two 2.0 A Shunt-LDO regulators are integrated in a prototype pixel chip implemented in 65-nm CMOS technology and used to provide constant supply voltages to its power domains from a constant input current. Serial powering is the baseline choice for low mass power distribution for the CMS and ATLAS HL-LHC pixel detectors. The RD53A prototype chip (65 nm CMOS) integrates 2 shunt-LDO (SLDO) regulators that allow providing constant voltage to each power domain (analog and digital) within a serial power chain with constant current. A serial powering scheme for the ATLAS pixel detector at sLHC / Gonella, L (Bonn U.) ; Arutinov, D (Bonn U.) ; Barbero, M (Bonn U.) ; Eyring, A (Bonn U.) ; Hügging, F (Bonn U.) ; Karagounis, M (Bonn U.) ; Krüger , H (Bonn U.) ; Wermes, N (Bonn U.)
Powering concepts, such as serial powering and DC-DC conversion, are in development for the silicon trackers at sLHC to achieve an efficient power distribution with a minimum volume of cables. This paper will describe the serial powering scheme developed for the upgraded ATLAS pixel detector, with focus on the scheme architecture and on the main components involved: the Shunt-LDO regulator and the protection scheme [...]

RD53A: A large-scale prototype chip for the phase II upgrade in the serially powered HL-LHC pixel detectors / Dimitrievska, Aleksandra (LBL, Berkeley) ; Stiller, Andreas (Dortmund U.) /RD53
The phase II upgrade of the HL-LHC experiments within the LHC intends to deepen the studies of the Higgs boson and to allow the discovery of further particles by adding an integrated luminosity of about 4000 fb$^{-1}$ over 10 years of operation. This upgrade would overwhelm the installed pixel detector readout chips with higher hit rates and radiation levels than ever before. [...]

Serial Powering for the Tracker Phase-2 Upgrade / Koukola, Dominik (CERN) /CMS Collaboration
The high luminosity phase of the LHC at CERN will bring unprecedented operational conditions for the experiments. To cope with the harsh radiation environment and extreme hit rates in the innermost layers of the detector, both ATLAS and CMS will upgrade their inner tracker pixel detectors. [...]

Prototype module construction for the high luminosity upgrade of the CMS pixel detector / Ristic, Branislav (Zurich, ETH) /CMS Collaboration
With the planned upgrades of the LHC towards high luminosity operation, the entire CMS silicon tracker will be replaced in order to cope with the resulting elevated pileup and radiation levels. To fulfill these requirements for the CMS pixel detector, a new readout chip was developed by the RD53 collaboration in 65\,nm CMOS technology, featuring a higher readout bandwidth along with increased granularity and radiation tolerance.
