Secondary electron yield of SRF materials
/ Aull, Sarah (CERN ; Siegen U.) ; Junginger, Tobias (CERN) ; Knobloch, Jens (Helmholtz-Zentrum, Berlin ; Siegen U.) ; Neupert, Holger (CERN)
The secondary electron yield (SEY) describes the number of electrons emitted to the vacuum per arriving electron at the surface. For a given geometry, the SEY is the defining factor for multipacting activity. [...]

Superconducting (SC) thin film coatings on Cu substrates are already widely used as an alternative to bulk Nb SRF structures. Using Cu allows improved thermal stability compared to Nb due to having a greater thermal conductivity. [...]

Rigorous Data Processing and Automatic Documentation of SRF Cold Tests
/ Hernández-Chahín, Karim (CERN ; Unlisted, MX) ; Aull, Sarah (CERN) ; Fernández López, Pablo (CERN) ; Schwerg, N (CERN) ; Stapley, Niall (CERN)
Performance curves for SRF cavities are derived from primary quantities which are processed by software. Commonly, the mathematical implementation of this analysis is hidden in software such as Excel or LabVIEW, making it difficult to verify or to trace, while text-based programming like Python and MATLAB require some programming skills for review and use. RF Characterization of Niobium Films for Superconducting Cavities
/ Aull† , S (CERN ; University of Siegen, Germany,) ; Calatroni, S (CERN) ; Doebert, S (CERN) ; Junginger, T (CERN) ; Ehiasarian, AP (Sheffield Hallam University, UK) ; Knobloch, J (University of Siegen, Germany ; Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin, Germany) ; Terenziani, G (CERN ; Sheffield Hallam University, UK)
The surface resistance RS of superconductors shows a complex dependence on the external parameters such as temperature, frequency or radio-frequency (RF) field. The Quadrupole Resonator modes of 400, 800 and 1200 MHz allow measurements at actual operating frequencies of superconducting cavities. [...]

Pathway to a Post Processing Increase in Q0 of SRF Cavities
/ Kugeler, O (Helmholtz-Zentrum, Berlin) ; Vogt, J (Helmholtz-Zentrum, Berlin) ; Knobloch, J (Helmholtz-Zentrum, Berlin) ; Aull, S (CERN ; Siegen U.)
A significant improvement of the quality factor Q0 from values of 1.5x1010 to values around 3x1010 at 1.8 K has been repeatedly achieved in a fully dressed and horizontally operated TESLA type SRF cavity by thermal cycling, i.e. heating the cavity briefly above the 9.2 K transition temperature of niobium and subsequent cooling. CERN Based $T_{c}$ Measurement Station for Thin-Film Coated Copper Samples and Results on Related Studies
/ Fonnesu, Dorothea (CERN ; Siegen U.) ; Bremer, Johan (CERN) ; Koettig, Torsten (CERN) ; Laín-Amador, Lucia (CERN) ; Pereira Carlos, Carlota (CERN) ; Rosaz, Guillaume (CERN) ; Vaaranta, Antti (Helsinki U.)
In the framework of the Future Circular Collider (FCC) Study, the development of thin-film coated superconducting radio-frequency (SRF) cavities capable of providing higher accelerating fields (10 to 20 MV/m against 5 MV/m of LHC) represents a major challenge. The development of a test stand commissioned at CERN for the inductive measurement of the critical temperature (T$_{c}$c) of SC thin-film deposited on copper samples for SRF application is presented in this work. Impact of Trapped Flux and Thermal Gradients on the SRF Cavity Quality Factor
/ Kugeler, O (Helmholtz-Zentrum, Berlin) ; Vogt, J (Helmholtz-Zentrum, Berlin) ; Knobloch, J (Helmholtz-Zentrum, Berlin) ; Aull, S (CERN)
The obtained Q0 value of a superconducting niobium cavity is known to depend on various factors like the RRR of the Niobium material, crystallinity, chemical treatment history, the high-pressure rinsing process, or effectiveness of the magnetic shielding. We have observed that spatial thermal gradients over the cavity length during cool-down appear to contribute to a degradation of Q0. [...]

Seamless 1.3 GHz Copper Cavities for Nb Coatings: Cold Test Results of Two Different Approaches

A necessary condition for high SRF performances in thin film coated cavities is the absence of substrate defects. For instance, in the past, defects originated around electron beam welds in high magnetic field areas have been shown to be the cause of performance limitations in Nb/Cu cavities. [...]
