The ATLAS Roman Pot system is designed to determine the total proton-proton cross-section as well as the luminosity at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) by measuring elastic proton scattering at very small angles. The system is made of four Roman Pot stations, located in the LHC tunnel in a distance of about 240~m at both sides of the ATLAS interaction point. [...]

In Particle and Nuclear Physics research and related applications, organic scintillators provide a cost-effective technology for the detection of ionising radiation. The next generation of experiments in this field is driving fundamental research and development on these materials, demanding improved light yield, radiation hardness, and fast response. [...]

Search for single top-quark production via flavour changing neutral currents at 8 TeV with the ATLAS detector
/ ATLAS Collaboration
A search for single top-quark production via flavour changing neutral current processes from gluon plus up- or charm--quark initial states in proton--proton collisions at the LHC is presented. Data collected with the ATLAS detector in 2012 at a centre-of-mass energy of $8\;\mbox{TeV}$ and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $20.3\;\mbox{fb}^{-1}$ are used. [...]

Measurement of the relative $B^{\pm}_{c}/B^{\pm}$ production cross section with the ATLAS detector at $\sqrt{s}=8$ TeV
/ ATLAS Collaboration
The total cross section and differential cross sections for the production of $B_{c}^{\pm}$ mesons, times their branching fraction to $J/\psi \pi^{\pm}$, are measured relative to those for the production of $B^{\pm}$ mesons, times their branching fraction to $J/\psi K^{\pm}$. The data used for this study correspond to an integrated luminosity of $20.3\,\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$ of $pp$ collisions recorded by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider in 2012 at a center-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s} = 8$ TeV.
