Tech.) ; Ady, M (CERN) ; Butti, D (CERN) ; Churchman, A R (CERN) ; Forck, P (Darmstadt, GSI) ; Kumar, N (Liverpool U. ; Cockcroft Inst. Accel. Sci. A non-invasive bidirectional beam profile monitor using beam-induced fluorescence upon a thin sheet of gas has been developed at the Cockcroft Institute in collaboration with CERN and GSI. This device is particularly suited to the Electron Beam Test Stand, and as such, a bespoke gas injection has been optimized for this specific use-case to provide diagnostics unavailable to conventional scintillator screens. Supersonic gas jets have been used in transverse beam profile monitoring as Ionization Profile Monitors (IPMs) and Beam Induced Fluorescence (BIF) monitors. The former method images ions generated by the projectile beam, whilst the latter is based on the detection of photons. [...]

The next generation of high power, high intensity accelerators requires non-invasive diagnostics, particularly beam profile monitors. Residual gas-based diagnostics such as ionization beam profile or beam induced fluorescence monitors have been used to replace commonly used scintillating screens. [...]

Gas jet based profile monitors inject a usually curtain shaped gas jet across a charged particle beam and exploit the results of the minimally invasive beam-gas interaction to provide information about the beam’s transversal profile. Such monitor will be installed as part of the High Luminosity LHC upgrade at CERN in the Hollow Electron Lens (HEL). [...]

Development of a Supersonic Gas-jet Monitor to Measure Beam Profile Non-destructively
/ Zhang, Hao (Cockcroft Inst. Accel. Sci. Tech. ; U. Liverpool (main)) ; Jeff, Adam (CERN ; Cockcroft Inst. Accel. Sci. Tech. ; U. Liverpool (main)) ; Tzoganis, Vasilis (Cockcroft Inst. Accel. Sci. The measurement of the transverse beam profile is a great challenge for high intensity, high brightness and high power particle beams due to their destructive power. Current non-destructive methods such as residual gas monitors and beam induced fluorescence monitors either require a rather long integration time or residual gas pressures in the order of 10⁻⁷ mbar to make meaningful measurements. 3D Tracking Methods in a GEANT4 Environment Through Electrostatic Beamlines
/ Hunt, James (U. Liverpool (main) ; Cockcroft Inst. Accel. Sci. Tech.) ; Resta-López, Javier (Cockcroft Inst. Accel. Sci. Tech. ; U. Liverpool (main)) ; Rodin, Volodymyr (U. Due to the relatively infrequent use of electrostatic beamline elements compared with their magnetic counterparts, there are few particle tracking codes which allow for the straightforward implementation of such beamlines. In this contribution, we present 3D tracking methods for beamlines containing electrostatic elements utilising a modified version of the Geant4 based tracking code 'G4beamline'. [...]
