Electro-Optical BPM Development for High Luminosity LHC / Arteche, Alberto (Royal Holloway, U. of London) ; Gibson, Stephen (Royal Holloway, U. of London) ; Lefèvre, Thibaut (CERN) ; Levens, Thomas (CERN)
An Electro-Optic Beam Position Monitor (EO-BPM) is being developed as a high-frequency (up to 10 GHz) diagnostic for crabbing and Head-Tail intra-bunch detection at the HL-LHC. Following an earlier prototype at the SPS that demonstrated single-pickup signals, an upgraded design of an interferometric EO-BPM has been beam-tested at the HiRadMat facility for validation and characterisation studies. [...]

Characterisation of electro-optic pickups for high bandwidth diagnostics at the High Luminosity LHC / Arteche, Alberto (JAI, UK ; Royal Holloway, U. of London) ; Bashforth, Sophie (JAI, UK ; Royal Holloway, U. of London) ; Bosco, Alessio (JAI, UK ; Royal Holloway, U. of London) ; Gibson, Stephen (JAI, UK ; Royal Holloway, U. of London) ; Krupa, Michal (CERN) ; Lefèvre, Thibaut (CERN) ; Penman, Inada (JAI, UK ; Royal Holloway, U. of London)
A high bandwidth electro-optical beam position monitor is under development for the High Luminosity LHC. A series of measurements of the electro-optic signals were previously obtained by an EO-BPM prototype installed in the SPS. [...]

Development of a Prototype Electro-Optic Beam Position Monitor at the CERN SPS / Arteche, Alberto (Royal Holloway, U. of London) ; Bosco, Alessio (Royal Holloway, U. of London) ; Chritin, Nicolas (CERN) ; Draskovic, Drasko (CERN) ; Gibson, Stephen (Royal Holloway, U. of London) ; Lefèvre, Thibaut (CERN) ; Levens, Thomas (CERN)
A novel electro-optic beam position monitor capable of rapidly (<50ps) monitoring transverse intra-bunch perturbations is under development for the HL-LHC project. The EO-BPM relies on the fast optical response of two pairs of electro-optic crystals, whose birefringence is modified by the passing electric field of a 1ns proton bunch. [...]

First Beam Tests at the CERN SPS of an Electro-Optic Beam Position Monitor for the HL-LHC / Arteche, Alberto (Royal Holloway, U. of London) ; Bashforth, Sophie (JAI, UK) ; Boorman, Gary (Royal Holloway, U. of London ; JAI, UK) ; Bosco, Alessio (Royal Holloway, U. of London ; JAI, UK) ; Chritin, Nicolas (CERN) ; Gibson, Stephen (Royal Holloway, U. of London ; JAI, UK) ; Krupa, Michal (CERN) ; Lefèvre, Thibaut (CERN) ; Levens, Thomas (CERN)
An Electro-Optic Beam Position Monitor is being developed for the HL-LHC, aimed at the detection of high order proton bunch instabilities and as a diagnostic for crabbed bunch rotation. A prototype EO-BPM was installed in the CERN SPS during 2016 and recent first beam tests of the EO pick-up are presented. [...]

Beam Measurements at the CERN SPS Using Interferometric Electro-Optic Pickups / Arteche, Alberto (Royal Holloway, U. of London) ; Bashforth, Sophie (JAI, UK) ; Bosco, Alessio (JAI, UK ; Royal Holloway, U. of London) ; Gibson, Stephen (Royal Holloway, U. of London ; JAI, UK) ; Krupa, Michal (CERN) ; Lefèvre, Thibaut (CERN)
Since 2016 a prototype electro-optic pickup has been installed on the SPS as part of the ongoing development of a high bandwidth electro-optic beam position monitor for the High Luminosity LHC. Following the success of initial beam signal observations with the prototype, improvements of the sensitivity and stability of the pickup have become the main focus of the project. [...]

High Frequency Electro-Optic Beam Position Monitors for Intra-Bunch Diagnostics at the LHC / Gibson, Stephen (Royal Holloway, U. of London) ; Arteche, Alberto (Royal Holloway, U. of London) ; Boorman, Gary (Royal Holloway, U. of London) ; Bosco, Alessio (Royal Holloway, U. of London) ; Darmedru, Pierre-Yves (CERN) ; Lefèvre, Thibaut (CERN) ; Levens, Thomas (CERN)
At the HL-LHC, proton bunches will be rotated by crab-cavities close to the interaction regions to maximize the luminosity. A method to rapidly monitor the transverse position of particles within each 1ns bunch is required. [...]

Enhanced Bunch Monitoring by Interferometric Electro-Optic Methods / Gibson, Stephen (Royal Holloway, U. of London ; JAI, UK) ; Arteche, Alberto (Royal Holloway, U. of London) ; Bashforth, Sophie (JAI, UK) ; Bosco, Alessio (Royal Holloway, U. of London ; JAI, UK) ; Krupa, Michal (CERN) ; Lefèvre, Thibaut (CERN)
A prototype Electro-Optic Beam Position Monitor has been installed for tests* in the CERN SPS to develop the concept for high-bandwidth (6-12GHz) monitoring of crabbed-bunch rotation and intra-bunch instabilities at the High Luminosity LHC**. The technique relies on the ultrafast response of birefringent MgO:LiNO3 crystals to optically measure the intra-bunch transverse displacement of a passing relativistic bunch. [...]

A High Resolution Single-Shot Longitudinal Profile Diagnostic Using Electro-Optic Transposition / Walsh, David (Daresbury) ; Jamison, Steven (Daresbury ; U. Manchester (main)) ; Lefèvre, Thibaut (CERN) ; Snedden, Edward (Daresbury)
Electro-Optic Transposition (EOT) is the basis for an improved longitudinal bunch profile diagnostic we are developing in ASTeC as part of the CLIC UK research program. The scheme consists of transposing the Coulomb field profile of an electron bunch into the intensity envelope of an optical pulse via the mixing processes that occur between a CW laser probe and Coulomb field in an electro-optic material. [...]
