Machine learning techniques for model-independent searches in dijet final states / Harris, Philip (MIT) ; Mccormack, William Patrick (MIT) ; Park, Sang Eon (MIT) ; Quadfasel, Tobias (Hamburg U.) ; Sommerhalder, Manuel (Hamburg U.) ; Moureaux, Louis Jean (Hamburg U.) ; Kasieczka, Gregor (Hamburg U.) ; Amram, Oz (Fermilab) ; Maksimovic, Petar (Johns Hopkins U.) ; Maier, Benedikt (KIT, Karlsruhe, EKP) et al.
We present the performance of Machine Learning--based anomaly detection techniques for extracting potential new physics phenomena in a model-agnostic way with the CMS Experiment at the Large Hadron Collider. We introduce five distinct outlier detection or density estimation techniques, namely CWoLa, Tag N' Train, CATHODE, QUAK, and QR-VAE, tailored for the identification of anomalous jets originating from the decay of unknown heavy particles. Track Reconstruction with Cosmic Ray Data at the Tracker Integration Facility / CMS Collaboration
The subsystems of the CMS silicon strip tracker were integrated and commissioned at the Tracker Integration Facility (TIF) in the period from November 2006 to July 2007. As part of the commissioning, large samples of cosmic ray data were recorded under various running conditions in the absence of a magnetic field. [...]

New radiation-tolerant thin planar and 3D columnar n$^+$ on p silicon pixel sensors / Boscardin, M ; Ceccarelli, Rudy (INFN, Florence) ; Dalla Betta, G.F ; Darbo, G ; Dinardo, Mauro (INFN, Milan Bicocca ; Milan Bicocca U.) ; Giacomini, G ; Menasce, Dario (INFN, Milan Bicocca) ; Mendicino, R ; Meschini, Marco (INFN, Florence) ; Messineo, Alberto (INFN, Pisa ; Pisa U.) et al.
The High Luminosity upgrade of the CERN Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC) calls for new high radiation-tolerant solid-state pixel sensors, capable of surviving irradiation fluences up to a few $10^{16}\\$\,n$_{\rm eq}$/cm$^2$ at $\sim3$\,cm from the interaction point. The INFN ATLAS-CMS joint research activity, in collaboration with Fondazione Bruno Kessler, is aiming at the development of thin n$^+$ on p type pixel sensors to be operated at the HL-LHC. [...]

Probing the chiral magnetic wave in pPb and PbPb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 5.02 $TeV using charge-dependent azimuthal anisotropies / CMS Collaboration
Charge-dependent anisotropy Fourier coefficients ($v_n$) of particle azimuthal distributions are measured in pPb and PbPb collisions at $ \sqrt{\smash[b]{s_{_{\mathrm{NN}}}}} = $ 5.02 TeV with the CMS detector at the LHC. The normalized difference in the second-order anisotropy coefficients ($v_2$) between positively and negatively charged particles is found to depend linearly on the observed event charge asymmetry with comparable slopes for both pPb and PbPb collisions over a wide range of charged particle multiplicity. Alignment of the CMS tracker with LHC and cosmic ray data / CMS Collaboration
The central component of the CMS detector is the largest silicon tracker ever built. The precise alignment of this complex device is a formidable challenge, and only achievable with a significant extension of the technologies routinely used for tracking detectors in the past. [...]

Performance of the CMS muon detector and muon reconstruction with proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}=$ 13 TeV / CMS Collaboration
The CMS muon detector system, muon reconstruction software, and high-level trigger underwent significant changes in 2013-2014 in preparation for running at higher LHC collision energy and instantaneous luminosity. The performance of the modified system is studied using proton-proton collision data at center-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s}=$ 13 TeV, collected at the LHC in 2015 and 2016. [...]

Measurement of differential cross sections for Z boson production in association with jets in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s} = $ 13 TeV / CMS Collaboration
The production of a Z boson, decaying to two charged leptons, in association with jets in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV is measured. Data recorded with the CMS detector at the LHC are used that correspond to an integrated luminosity of 2.19 fb$^{-1}$. [...]

Measurement of the $\mathrm{ t \bar{t} }$ production cross section in the $\mathrm{ e \mu }$ channel in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s} =$ 7 and 8 TeV / CMS Collaboration
The inclusive cross section for top quark pair production is measured in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s} =$ 7 and 8 TeV, corresponding to 5.0 and 19.7 fb$^{-1}$, respectively, with the CMS experiment at the LHC. The cross sections are measured in the electron-muon channel using a binned likelihood fit to multi-differential final state distributions related to identified b quark jets and other jets in the event. Measurements of the $\mathrm{ t \bar{t} }$ production cross section in lepton+jets final states in pp collisions at 8 TeV and ratio of 8 to 7 TeV cross sections / CMS Collaboration
A measurement of the top quark pair production ($\mathrm{ t \bar{t} }$) cross section in proton-proton collisions at the centre-of-mass energy of 8 TeV is presented using data collected with the CMS detector at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.6 fb$^{-1}$. This analysis is performed in the $\mathrm{ t \bar{t} }$ decay channels with one isolated, high transverse momentum electron or muon and at least four jets, at least one of which is required to be identified as originating from hadronization of a b quark.
