A Cryogenic Test Station for Subcooling Helium Heat Exchangers for LHC / Roussel, P ; Jäger, B ; Tavian, L
The superconducting magnets of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) will be cooled at 1.9 K by distributed cooling loops where counter-flow heat exchangers will be integrated. To qualify potential suppliers for the 250-units series production, prototypes of various technologies have been selected by CERN and a test station was set up at CEA-Grenoble. [...]

A Cryogenic Test Station for the Pre-series 2400 W @ 1.8 K Refrigeration Units for the LHC / Claudet, S ; Ferlin, G ; Gully, P ; Jäger, B ; Millet, F ; Roussel, P ; Tavian, L
The cooling capacity below 2 K for the superconducting magnets in the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), at CERN, will be provided by eight refrigeration units at 1.8 K, each of them coupled to a 4.5 K refrigerator. The supply of the series units is linked to successful testing and acceptance of the pre-series delivered by the two selected vendors. [...]

Performance Assessment of 239 Series Sub-cooling Heat Exchangers for the Large Hadron Collider / Riddone, G ; Gilbert, N ; Roussel, P ; Moracchioli, R ; Tavian, L /FP6 Collaboration
Helium sub-cooling heat exchangers of the counter-flow type are used to minimize the vapor fraction produced in the final expansion of the 1.9 K distributed cooling loops used for cooling the superconducting magnets of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). These components are of compact design, featuring low-pressure drop and handling very low pressure vapor at low temperature. [...]

Cryogenic performances of a heat exchanger prototype suitable for the superconducting HL-LHC recombination dipole D2 / Rousset, B (IRIG, Grenoble) ; Bancel, F (IRIG, Grenoble) ; Besson, N (IRIG, Grenoble) ; Bon-Mardion, M (IRIG, Grenoble) ; Claudet, S (CERN) ; Goy, T (IRIG, Grenoble) ; Millet, F (IRIG, Grenoble) ; Nivelon, P (IRIG, Grenoble) ; Perin, A (CERN)
In the framework of the future High Luminosity upgrade of the Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC) at CERN, most superconducting magnets in the Long Straight Sections will be replaced. Among them, the new D2 recombination dipole will be a He II conduction-cooled magnet with a larger aperture than the LHC dipoles. [...]

Thermohydraulic Behaviour of HeII in Stratified Co-Current Two-Phase Flow at High Vapor Velocities / Rousset, B ; Di Muoio, E ; Puech, L ; Thibault, P ; Wolf, P E ; Van Weelderen, R
Recent experiments conducted with a co-current flow of saturated superfluid helium at CEA-Grenoble have shown a transition from stratified two phase flow to droplet mist flow at high vapor velocities. The two phase co-current stratified flow was circulated through a 40 mm inner diameter, 10 m long tube, with a slope ranging between 0 and 1.4%. [...]
