Fibre optics sensors have been identified as very good candidates for environmental monitoring inside the silicon detectors operated at CERN’s Large Hadron Collider. In this study, we present the results from the first highly sensitive relative humidity distributed sensor with kilometres sensing range. [...]

Future high energy physics experiments at the energy and intensity frontiers will face challenges from a severe radiation environment caused by both ionization dose and charged and neutral hadrons. This paper reports an investigation on proton induced radiation damage in various crystal scintillators. [...]

Search for anomalous couplings in boosted $\mathrm{ WW/WZ }\to\ell\nu\mathrm{ q \bar{q} }$ production in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s} =$ 8 TeV / CMS Collaboration
This Letter presents a search for new physics manifested as anomalous triple gauge boson couplings in WW and WZ diboson production in proton-proton collisions. The search is performed using events containing a W boson that decays leptonically and a W or Z boson whose decay products are merged into a single reconstructed jet. [...]

Measurement of the mass difference between top quark and antiquark in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 8$ TeV / CMS Collaboration
The invariance of the standard model (SM) under the CPT transformation predicts equality of particle and antiparticle masses. This prediction is tested by measuring the mass difference between the top quark and antiquark (Delta m[t] = m[t] - m[t-bar]) that are produced in pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 8 TeV, using events with a muon or an electron and at least four jets in the final state. The CMS trigger system / CMS Collaboration
This paper describes the CMS trigger system and its performance during Run 1 of the LHC. The trigger system consists of two levels designed to select events of potential physics interest from a GHz (MHz) interaction rate of proton-proton (heavy ion) collisions. [...]

Jet energy scale and resolution in the CMS experiment in pp collisions at 8 TeV / CMS Collaboration
Improved jet energy scale corrections, based on a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.7 fb$^{-1}$ collected by the CMS experiment in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 8 TeV, are presented. The corrections as a function of pseudorapidity $\eta$ and transverse momentum $p_{\mathrm{T}}$ are extracted from data and simulated events combining several channels and methods. [...]

Measurement of the differential cross sections for top quark pair production as a function of kinematic event variables in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 7 and 8 TeV / CMS Collaboration
Measurements are reported of the normalized differential cross sections for top quark pair production with respect to four kinematic event variables: the missing transverse energy; the scalar sum of the jet transverse momentum (pT); the scalar sum of the pT of all objects in the event; and the pT of leptonically decaying W bosons from top quark decays. The data sample, collected using the CMS detector at the LHC, consists of 5.0 inverse-femtobarns of proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 7 TeV and 19.7 inverse-femtobarns at $\sqrt{s}$ = 8 TeV. Measurements of the $\mathrm{ t \bar{t} }$ production cross section in lepton+jets final states in pp collisions at 8 TeV and ratio of 8 to 7 TeV cross sections / CMS Collaboration
A measurement of the top quark pair production ($\mathrm{ t \bar{t} }$) cross section in proton-proton collisions at the centre-of-mass energy of 8 TeV is presented using data collected with the CMS detector at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.6 fb$^{-1}$. This analysis is performed in the $\mathrm{ t \bar{t} }$ decay channels with one isolated, high transverse momentum electron or muon and at least four jets, at least one of which is required to be identified as originating from hadronization of a b quark. Azimuthal decorrelation of jets widely separated in rapidity in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s} =$ 7 TeV / CMS Collaboration
The decorrelation in the azimuthal angle between the most forward and the most backward jets (Mueller-Navelet jets) is measured in data collected in pp collisions with the CMS detector at the LHC at $\sqrt{s} =$ 7 TeV. The measurement is presented in the form of distributions of azimuthal-angle differences, $\Delta\phi$, between the Mueller-Navelet jets, the average cosines of $(\pi-\Delta\phi)$, $2(\pi-\Delta\phi)$, and $3(\pi-\Delta\phi)$, and ratios of these cosines.
