New horizons for fundamental physics with LISA / LISA Collaboration
The Laser Interferometer Space Antenna (LISA) has the potential to reveal wonders about the fundamental theory of nature at play in the extreme gravity regime, where the gravitational interaction is both strong and dynamical. In this white paper, the Fundamental Physics Working Group of the LISA Consortium summarizes the current topics in fundamental physics where LISA observations of GWs can be expected to provide key input. [...]

Prospects for Fundamental Physics with LISA / LISA Collaboration
In this paper, which is of programmatic rather than quantitative nature, we aim to further delineate and sharpen the future potential of the LISA mission in the area of fundamental physics. Given the very broad range of topics that might be relevant to LISA, we present here a sample of what we view as particularly promising directions, based in part on the current research interests of the LISA scientific community in the area of fundamental physics. Lower limit on the entropy of black holes as inferred from gravitational wave observations / Brustein, Ram (Ben Gurion U. of Negev) ; Medved, A.J.M. (Rhodes U. ; NITheP, Matieland) ; Yagi, K. (Virginia U.)
Black hole (BH) thermodynamics was established by Bekenstein and Hawking, who made abstract theoretical arguments about the second law of thermodynamics and quantum theory in curved spacetime respectively. Testing these ideas experimentally has, so far, been impractical because the putative flux of Hawking radiation from astrophysical BHs is too small to be distinguished from the rest of the hot environment. [...]

Constraints on Einstein-Æther theory and Hořava gravity from binary pulsar observations / Yagi, Kent (Montana State U.) ; Blas, Diego (CERN) ; Barausse, Enrico (Paris, Inst. Astrophys.) ; Yunes, Nicolás (Montana State U.)
Binary pulsars are ideal to test the foundations of General Relativity, such as Lorentz symmetry, which requires that experiments produce the same results in all free-falling (i.e.inertial) frames. We here break this symmetry in the gravitational sector by specifying a preferred time direction, and thus a preferred frame, at each spacetime point. [...]

Strong Binary Pulsar Constraints on Lorentz Violation in Gravity / Yagi, Kent (Montana State U.) ; Blas, Diego (CERN) ; Yunes, Nicolás (Montana State U.) ; Barausse, Enrico (Paris, Inst. Astrophys.)
Binary pulsars are excellent laboratories to test the building blocks of Einstein's theory of General Relativity. One of these is Lorentz symmetry which states that physical phenomena appear the same for all inertially moving observers. [...]

Improved Performance of the NIJI-IV Compact VUV/IR FEL and its Application to the Surface Observation / Yamada, Kawakatsu ; Ogawa, Hiroshi ; Sei, Norihiro ; Yagi-Watanabe, K ; Yasumoto, Masato
At AIST, efforts to increase the FEL power as well as to shorten the lasing wavelength below 190 nm are being made, to use the NIJI-IV FEL as an intense light source for real-time surface observation using the photoelectron emission microscopy (PEEM). By irradiating a transition-metal surface with the 200-nm FEL, fine structure of one- micron scale was successfully observed with spatial and temporal resolutions of a few hundreds nm and 33 ms, respectively.
