Shower simulations for the CERN proton synchrotron internal dump and possible shielding options
/ Niang, Samuel (CERN) ; Huschauer, Alexander (CERN) ; Esposito, Luigi Salvatore (CERN) ; Giovannozzi, Massimo (CERN) ; Pugnat, Thomas (CERN)
During the Long Shutdown 2, the two internal dumps were replaced and successfully integrated into the CERN Proton Synchrotron operation to withstand the intense and bright beams for the High-Luminosity LHC. They function as safety devices, designed to swiftly intersect the beam’s trajectory and effectively stop the beam over multiple turns. [...]

Sorting strategies for the new superconducting magnets for the CERN HL-LHC
/ Pugnat, Thomas (CERN) ; Wegscheider, Andreas (CERN) ; Todesco, Ezio (CERN) ; Giovannozzi, Massimo (CERN) ; Tomas, Rogelio (CERN)
In a circular collider, precise control of the linear optics in the vicinity of the interaction points plays a crucial role in ensuring optimal operational performance and satisfying the machine protection constraints. Superconducting magnets are affected by unavoidable field errors that impact machine performance, and mitigation strategies are usually put in place to improve the situation. [...]

In the framework of the LHC Injector Upgrade project, a new internal dump for the CERN Proton Synchrotron (PS) has been designed, installed, and successfully commissioned. This device is meant to move rapidly into the beam and stop charged particles over several turns to provide protection to the PS hardware against beam-induced damage. [...]

Analysis Tools for Numerical Simulations of Dynamic Aperture with Xsuite
/ Pugnat, Thomas (CERN) ; Di Croce, Davide (Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne) ; Giovannozzi, Massimo (CERN) ; Van der Veken, Frederik (CERN)
Recently, several efforts have been made at CERN to develop a new tracking tool, Xsuite, which is intended to be the successor to SixTrack. In this framework, analysis tools have also been prepared with the goal of providing advanced post-processing techniques for the interpretation of dynamic aperture simulations. [...]

During the Long Shutdown 2 (LS2), two new internal dumps (TDIs) were installed and successfully put into operation in the CERN Proton Synchrotron (PS) to withstand the intense and bright beams produced for the High Luminosity LHC. TDIs serve as safety devices designed to rapidly enter the beam trajectory and stop the beam over multiple turns. [...]

First operational dodecapole correction in the LHC

Amplitude detuning measurements in the LHC have shown that a significant amount of detuning is generated via feed-down from high-order field errors in the magnets of the experiment insertion regions. This undesired effect can be detrimental to the luminosity production of the machine and is expected to be enhanced in the upcoming high-luminosity upgrade of the collider, the HL-LHC. [...]

Operational Scenario of First High Luminosity LHC Run
/ Tomás García, Rogelio (CERN) ; Arduini, Gianluigi (CERN) ; Baudrenghien, Philippe (CERN) ; Bruce, Roderik (CERN) ; Brüning, Oliver (CERN) ; Buffat, Xavier (CERN) ; Calaga, Rama (CERN) ; Cerutti, Francesco (CERN) ; De Maria, Riccardo (CERN) ; Dilly, Joschua (CERN) et al.
A new scenario for the first operational run of the HL-LHC era (Run 4) has been recently developed to accommodate a period of performance ramp-up to achieve an annual integrated luminosity close to the nominal HL-LHC design. The operational scenario in terms of beam parameters and machine settings, as well as the different phases, are described here along with the impact of potential delays on key hardware components..

Non-Linear Variation of the Beta-Beating Measured From Amplitude
/ Pugnat, Thomas (IRFU, Saclay) ; Dalena, Barbara (IRFU, Saclay) ; Franchi, Andrea (ESRF, Grenoble) ; Tomás García, Rogelio (CERN)
Accelerator physics needs advanced modeling and simulation techniques, for beam stability studies but also for the measurement of beam parameters like the Twiss parameters. A deeper understanding of magnetic field non-linearities effects will greatly help in the improvement of future circular collider design, performance, and diagnostics. [...]
