Calorimeter prototyping for the iMPACT project pCT scanner / Pozzobon, Nicola (INFN, Padua) ; Baruffaldi, Filippo (INFN, Padua) ; Bisello, Dario (INFN, Padua) ; Bonini, Chiara (INFN, Padua) ; Di Ruzza, Benedetto (TIFPA-INFN, Trento) ; Giubilato, Piero (INFN, Padua) ; Mattiazzo, Serena (INFN, Padua) ; Pantano, Devis (INFN, Padua) ; Silvestrin, Luca (INFN, Padua) ; Snoeys, Walter (CERN) et al.
The iMPACT project aims at building a novel pCT scanner for protons of medical energies in the range between 200 and 300 MeV, a proton tracking system that provides accurate information to create a map of the tissue density of human organs. Such information is crucial for an accurate aiming of proton-therapy beams and is currently provided by X-rays CT scans, with an accuracy lower than the one which could be achieved by using protons. This contribution describes the first results obtained within the iMPACT project, which aims to build a novel proton computed-tomography (pCT) scanner for protons of energy up to 230 MeV, as used in hadron therapy. The iMPACT pCT scanner will improve the current state-of-the-art in proton tracking at all levels: speed, spatial resolution, material budget, and cost. [...]

Search for top squarks and dark matter particles in opposite-charge dilepton final states at $\sqrt{s}=$ 13 TeV / CMS Collaboration
A search for new physics is presented in final states with two oppositely charged leptons (electrons or muons), jets identified as originating from b quarks, and missing transverse momentum ($p_\mathrm{T}^\text{miss}$). The search uses proton-proton collision data at $\sqrt{s}=$ 13 TeV amounting to 35.9 fb$^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity collected using the CMS detector in 2016. [...]

Search for supersymmetry with Higgs boson to diphoton decays using the razor variables at $\sqrt{s} = $ 13 TeV / CMS Collaboration
An inclusive search for anomalous Higgs boson production in the diphoton decay channel and in association with at least one jet is presented, using LHC proton-proton collision data collected by the CMS experiment at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb$^{-1}$. The razor variables $M_\mathrm{R}$ and $\mathrm{R}^2$, as well as the momentum and mass resolution of the diphoton system, are used to categorize events into different search regions. [...]

Principal-component analysis of two-particle azimuthal correlations in PbPb and pPb collisions at CMS / CMS Collaboration
For the first time a principal-component analysis is used to separate out different orthogonal modes of the two-particle correlation matrix from heavy ion collisions. The analysis uses data from $\sqrt{s_{\mathrm{NN}}} = $ 2.76 TeV PbPb and $\sqrt{s_{\mathrm{NN}}} = $ 5.02 TeV pPb collisions collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC. [...]

Search for supersymmetry in events with at least one photon, missing transverse momentum, and large transverse event activity in proton-proton collisions at $ \sqrt{s}=13 $ TeV / CMS Collaboration
A search for physics beyond the standard model in final states with at least one photon, large transverse momentum imbalance, and large total transverse event activity is presented. Such topologies can be produced in gauge-mediated supersymmetry models in which pair-produced gluinos or squarks decay to photons and gravitinos via short-lived neutralinos. [...]

Measurement of $\mathrm{B}^{\pm}$ mesons differential production cross sections in pp and PbPb collisions at ${\sqrt{{s_{_{\mathrm{NN}}}}}} = $ 5.02 TeV / CMS Collaboration
The differential production cross sections of $\mathrm{B}^{\pm}$ mesons are measured via the exclusive decay channels ${\mathrm{B}^{\pm}\to\mathrm{J}/\psi \mathrm{K}^{\pm}\to\mu^{+}\mu^{-}\mathrm{K}^{\pm}} $ as a function of transverse momentum in pp and PbPb collisions at a center-of-mass energy ${\sqrt{{s_{_{\mathrm{NN}}}}}} = $ 5.02 TeV per nucleon pair with the CMS detector at the LHC. The pp (PbPb) dataset used for this analysis corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 28.0 pb$^{-1}$ (351 $\mu$b$^{-1}$). [...]
