(JAEA, Ibaraki) et al.
Detailed $\gamma$-ray spectroscopy of the exotic neon isotope $^{28}$Ne has been performed for the first time using the one-neutron removal reaction from $^{29}$Ne on a liquid hydrogen target at 240~MeV/nucleon. Based on an analysis of parallel momentum distributions, a level scheme with spin-parity assignments has been constructed for $^{28}$Ne and the negative-parity states are identified for the first time. The lifetime of the 0$_3^+$ state in $^{66}$Ni, two neutrons below the $N=40$ subshell gap, has been measured. The transition $B(E2;0_3^+ \rightarrow 2_1^+)$ is one of the most hindered E2 transitions in the Ni isotopic chain and it implies that, unlike $^{68}$Ni, there is a spherical structure at low excitation energy. Normal and intruder configurations in $^{34}$Si populated in the $\beta^-$ decay of $^{34}$Mg and $^{34}$Al
/ IDS Collaboration
The structure of $^{34}$Si was studied through $\gamma$ spectroscopy separately in the $\beta^-$ decays of $^{34}$Mg and $^{34}$Al at the ISOLDE facility of CERN. Different configurations in $^{34}$Si were populated independently from the two recently identified $\beta$-decaying states in $^{34}$Al having spin-parity assignments $J^\pi = 4^-$ dominated by the normal configuration $\pi (d_{5/2})^{-1} \otimes \nu (f_{7/2})$ and $J^\pi = 1^+$ by the intruder configuration $\pi (d_{5/2})^{-1} \otimes \nu (d_{3/2})^{-1}(f_{7/2})^{2}$. The nuclear $g$ factor and quadrupole moment ($Q_s$) have been measured for the low-lying isomeric $1^+$ state of $^{34}$Al, using the $\beta$-detected nuclear magnetic resonance ($\beta$-NMR) and quadrupole resonance ($\beta$-NQR) methods. Spin-polarized $^{34}$Al isotopes were produced in a one-neutron pickup reaction induced by a $^{36}$S beam on a $^9$Be target at a kinetic energy of 77.5 MeV/nucleon, and were collected with the LISE fragment separator at GANIL. The masses of the neutron-rich copper isotopes Cu75–79 are determined using the precision mass spectrometer ISOLTRAP at the CERN-ISOLDE facility. The trend from the new data differs significantly from that of previous results, offering a first accurate view of the mass surface adjacent to the Z=28, N=50 nuclide Ni78 and supporting a doubly magic character. Shell model spectroscopy far from stability
/ Poves, A (Madrid, Autonoma U.)
I will discuss the impact of the research on exotic nuclei carried out at ISOLDE and later on, following its impulse, in many laboratories worldwide, in our present knowledge of the nuclear dynamics. I will put particular emphasis on the occurrence of islands of inversion (IoI) at several magic numbers for the neutrons, far from stability. [...]

The β− decay of Mg34 was used to study the Al34 nucleus through γ spectroscopy at the Isotope Separator On-Line facility of CERN. Previous studies identified two β-decaying states in Al34 having spin-parity assignments Jπ=4− dominated by the normal configuration π(d5/2)−1⊗ν(f7/2) and Jπ=1+ by the intruder configuration π(d5/2)−1⊗ν(d3/2)−1(f7/2)2. From N=2Z in $^{60}$Ca to N=Z in $^{80}$Zr: Connecting the driplines

We present Large Scale Shell Model calculations using the effective interaction LNPS, which reproduce nicely the experimental data available in the N=40 island of deformation. We deal as well with the triple (shape?) coexistence in the low energy spectrum of (68)Ni, showing that the highly deformed band based upon the excited 0(+) state at 2627 keV is in fact the doorway to the island.
