Test Results of the First 3.7 m long Nb$_3$Sn Quadrupole by LARP and Future Plans
/ LARP Collaboration
In December 2009 during its first cold test, LQS01, the first Long Nb$_3$Sn Quadrupole made by LARP (LHC Accelerator Research Program, a collaboration of BNL, FNAL, LBNL and SLAC), reached its target field gradient of 200 T/m. This target was set in 2005 by the US Department of Energy, CERN and LARP, as a significant milestone toward the development of Nb$_3$Sn quadrupoles for possible use in LHC luminosity upgrades. [...]

Design and Fabrication of the 1.9 K Magnet Test Facility at BNL, and Test of the First 4-m-Long MQXF Coil
/ Muratore, Joseph (Brookhaven Natl. Lab.) ; Anerella, Michael (Brookhaven Natl. Lab.) ; Joshi, Piyush (Brookhaven Natl. Lab.) ; Kovach, Paul (Brookhaven Natl. Lab.) ; Marone, Andrew (Brookhaven Natl. Lab.) ; Wanderer, Peter (Brookhaven Natl. Lab.)
The future high luminosity upgrade of the Large
Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN will include 20 4.2-m-long Nb$_3$Sn
high gradient quadrupole magnets, which will be components of
the triplets for two LHC insertion regions. In order to test these
and four preproduction models, the vertical superconducting magnet test facility of the Superconducting Magnet Division (SMD) at
Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) has been upgraded to perform testing in superfluid He at 1.9 K and 1 bar, the operational
condition at the LHC. [...]

Assembly and Test of a Support Structure for 3.6 m Long Nb$_3$Sn Racetrack Coils
/ Ferracin, P ; Ambrosio, G ; Anerella, M ; Caspi, S ; Cheng, D W ; Felice, H ; Hafalia, A R ; Hannaford, C R ; Lietzke, A F ; Lizarazo, J et al.
The LHC accelerator research program (LARP) is currently developing 4 m long Nb$_3$Sn quadrupole magnets for a possible upgrade of the LHC Interaction Regions (IR). In order to provide a reliable test bed for the fabrication and test of long Nb$_3$Sn coils, LARP has started the development of the long racetrack magnet LRS01. [...]

Construction and Test of 3.6 m Nb$_3$Sn Racetrack Coils for LARP
/ Wanderer, P (Brookhaven) ; Ambrosio, G (Fermilab) ; Anerella, M (Brookhaven Natl. Lab.) ; Barzi, E (Fermilab) ; Bossert, R (Fermilab) ; Caspi, S (LBNL, Berkeley) ; Cheng, D W (LBNL, Berkeley) ; Cozzolino, J (Brookhaven Natl. Lab.) ; Dietderich, D R (LBNL, Berkeley) ; Escallier, J (Brookhaven Natl. Lab.) et al.
Development of high-performance Nb$_3$Sn quadrupoles is one of the major goals of the LHC Accelerator Research Program (LARP). As part of this program, long racetrack magnets were made in order to check the fabrication steps for long Nb$_3$Sn coils, that the changes in coil length that take place during reaction and cooldown are correctly accounted for in the quadrupole design, and the use of a long aluminum shell for the support structure.
