LHC collimation cleaning and operation outlook
/ Salvachua, B (CERN) ; Assmann, R W (CERN) ; Bruce, R (CERN) ; Cauchi, M (CERN) ; Deboy, D (CERN) ; Lari, L (CERN) ; Marsili, A (CERN) ; Mirarchi, D (CERN) ; Quaranta, E (CERN) ; Redaelli, S (CERN) et al.
An overview of the collimation system performance during 2012 is described. The collimator " tight " settings for the 60 cm β reach are introduced and the evolution of the cleaning inefficiency achieved throughout the year with one single collimator alignment is presented. [...]

Beam Loss Monitoring for LHC Machine Protection

The energy stored in the nominal LHC beams is two times 362 MJ, 100 times the energy of the Tevatron. As little as 1 mJ/cm 3 deposited energy quenches a magnet at 7 TeV and 1 J/cm 3 causes magnet damage. [...]

Simulations of fast crab cavity failures in the high luminosity Large Hadron Collider
/ Yee-Rendon, Bruce (CINVESTAV, IPN) ; Lopez-Fernandez, Ricardo (CINVESTAV, IPN) ; Barranco, Javier (CERN) ; Calaga, Rama (CERN) ; Marsili, Aurelien (CERN) ; Tomás, Rogelio (CERN) ; Zimmermann, Frank (CERN) ; Bouly, Frédéric (LPSC, Grenoble)
Crab cavities (CCs) are a key ingredient of the high luminosity Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC) project for increasing the luminosity of the LHC. At KEKB, CCs have exhibited abrupt changes of phase and voltage during a time period of the order of a few LHC turns and considering the significant stored energy in the HL-LHC beam, CC failures represent a serious threat in regard to LHC machine protection. Collimation Cleaning for HL-LHC Optics Scenarios with Error Models
/ Marsili, Aurelien (CERN) ; Bruce, Roderik (CERN) ; Redaelli, Stefano (CERN)
The upgrade of the LHC collimation system in view of the High-Luminosity upgrade of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) foresees, amongst other scenarios, local collimation in the dispersion suppressors (DS) of IR7. Layouts have been worked out which rely on using stronger and short bending dipoles to free space for a collimator in the cold DS. [...]

Power Deposition in LHC Magnets With and Without Dispersion Suppressor Collimators Downstream of the Betatron Cleaning Insertion
/ Lechner, Anton (CERN) ; Auchmann, Bernhard (CERN) ; Bruce, Roderik (CERN) ; Cerutti, Francesco (CERN) ; Granieri, Pier Paolo (CERN) ; Marsili, Aurelien (CERN) ; Redaelli, Stefano (CERN) ; Shetty, Nikhil Vittal (CERN) ; Skordis, Eleftherios (CERN) ; Steele, Genevieve (CERN) et al.
The power deposited in dispersion suppressor (DS) magnets downstream of the LHC betatron cleaning insertion is governed by off-momentum protons which predominantly originate from single-diffractive interactions in primary collimators. With higher beam energy and intensities anticipated in future operation, these clustered proton losses could possibly induce magnet quenches during periods of short beam lifetime. [...]
