RF power generation II / Montesinos, Eric (speaker) (CERN)
We reviewed the main types of RF power amplifiers used for particle accelerators. It covers vacuum beam tubes, specifically gridded tubes, including tetrodes, inductive output tubes, klystrons, and transistor amplifiers, with power outputs greater than 10 kW CW or 100 kW pulsed at frequencies from 50 MHz to 1 GHz. Functioning principle and construction aspects of these various items were presented. Factors affecting the satisfactory operation of amplifiers, including cooling, matching, and protection circuits, were discussed. The presentation concludes with a summary on the topic of efficiency..

HOM Couplers and RF Antennas for HL-LHC Crab Cavities: Developments for Manufacturing / Barrière, Simon (CERN) ; Atieh, Said (CERN) ; Bulat, Bartosz (CERN) ; Calaga, Rama (CERN) ; Calvo, Sebastien (CERN) ; Capatina, Ofelia (CERN) ; Demazière, Thomas (CERN) ; Favre, Gilles (CERN) ; Gallifa Terricabras, Adrià (CERN) ; Garlasché, Marco (CERN) et al.
Superconducting RF crab cavities are being manufactured as part of the High-Luminosity LHC project at CERN. Amongst its related ancillaries, radiofrequency HOM (High Order Modes) couplers and field antennas are essential for reaching nominal performance during operation with high energy beams, as they monitor and control the electromagnetic fields in the cavities. HL-LHC Crab Cavity HOM Couplers: Challenges and Results / Mitchell, James (CERN) ; Calaga, Rama (CERN) ; Montesinos, Eric (CERN)
To compensate for the detrimental effect of the crossing angle on luminosity production in the High Luminosity Large Hadron Collider’s (HL-LHC) interaction regions, superconducting crab cavities (vertical and horizontal) will be installed at the two interaction regions of the ATLAS and CMS experiments. Both cavity designs use multiple Higher Order Mode (HOM) couplers to reduce beam instabilities and heat loads caused by the very high proton current in the HL-LHC. [...]
