Energy deposition and radiation level studies for the FCC-ee experimental insertions / Frasca, Alessandro (CERN ; Liverpool U.) ; Ciarma, Andrea (Frascati) ; Lechner, Anton (CERN) ; Perillo Marcone, Antonio (CERN) ; Humann, Barbara (CERN) ; Järmyr Eriksson, Carl (CERN) ; Welsch, Carsten (Liverpool U.) ; Calzolari, Daniele (CERN) ; Lerner, Giuseppe (CERN) ; Boscolo, Manuela (Frascati) et al.
The Future Circular Collider (FCC) study foresees the construction of a 90.7 km underground ring where, as a first stage, a high-luminosity electron-positron collider (FCC-ee) is envisaged, operating at beam energies from 45.6 GeV (Z pole) to 182.5 GeV (ttbar). In the FCC-ee experimental interaction regions, various physical processes give rise to particle showers that can be detrimental to machine components as well as equipment in the tunnel, such as cables and electronics. Challenges and mitigation measures for synchrotron radiation on the FCC-ee arcs / Humann, Barbara (CERN) ; Frasca, Alessandro (CERN) ; Lechner, Anton (CERN) ; Järmyr Eriksson, Carl (CERN) ; Valchkova-Georgieva, Fani (Unlisted, CH) ; Bauche, Jeremie (CERN) ; Hofer, Michael (CERN) ; Kersevan, Roberto (CERN) ; Garcia Alia, Ruben (CERN)
In a high-energy circular electron-positron collider like the Future Circular Collider (FCC-ee) at CERN, synchrotron radiation (SR) presents a significant challenge due to the radiation load on collider magnets and equipment in the tunnel like cables, optical fibers, and electronics. The efficiency of the anticipated photon absorbers in the vacuum chambers depends on the operational beam energy, ranging from 45.6 GeV to 182.5 GeV. [...]

Selected advances in the accelerator design of the Future Circular Electron-Positron Collider (FCC-ee) / FCC Collaboration
In autumn 2023, the FCC Feasibility Study underwent a crucial “mid-term review”. We describe some accelerator performance risks for the proposed future circular electron-positron collider, FCC-ee, identified for, and during, the mid-term review. [...]

Beam gas curtain monitor: Vacuum studies for LHC integration and operation / Castro Sequeiro, C (CERN) ; Ady, M (CERN) ; Bregliozzi, G (CERN) ; Chatzigeorgiou, N (CERN) ; Churchman, A R (CERN) ; Kersevan, R (CERN) ; Lefevre, T (CERN) ; Mazzoni, S (CERN) ; Pigny, G (CERN) ; Rossi, A (CERN) et al.
A beam gas curtain (BGC) monitor has been designed to obtain information about the relative position between the LHC proton beam and the hollow electron lens electron beam through a minimally invasive process. Its working principle relies on intersecting the path of both beams with a supersonic gas curtain, introduced transversely into the LHC beamline, to produce a fluorescence signal. [...]

First considerations on the supporting structures of FCC-ee booster and collider in the arc regions / Carra, F (CERN) ; Baudin, L (CERN) ; Bauche, J (CERN) ; Artoos, K (CERN) ; Atieh, S (CERN) ; Bertarelli, A (CERN) ; Brunner, O (CERN) ; Capatina, O (CERN) ; Chance, A (Saclay) ; Chemli, S (CERN) et al.
In 2022, the FCC Feasibility Study management mandated aworking group to analyse the best configuration of the FCC-ee tunnelin the arc regions, in view of the construction of a mock-up of thearc half-cell. One of the main and most challenging goals of thestudy, named FCC-ee Arc Half-Cell Mock-up Project, was toperform a preliminary investigation on the principles of supportingthe Short-Straight Sections and dipoles of the half-cells, both forthe booster and for the collider machines. Vacuum System of the FCC-ee / Kersevan, Roberto (CERN)
The analysis and design of the vacuum system for the FCC-ee e⁻ and e⁺ rings is outlined. The main vacuum-relevant parameters are recalled, with particular emphasis on the copious emission of synchrotron radiation (SR) along the rings, and its direct and indirect effects on vac-uum, namely surface heating, SR-induced molecular desorption, generation of photoelectrons. Radiation levels produced by the operation of the Beam Gas Vertex monitor in the LHC tunnel at IR4 / Prelipcean, D (CERN) ; Lerner, G (CERN) ; García Alía, R (CERN) ; Bilko, K (CERN) ; Kolbinger, B (CERN) ; Guerin, H (CERN) ; Storey, J (CERN) ; Galloro, A (CERN) ; Kersevan, R (CERN)
The Large Hadron Collider at CERN is equipped with instruments that exploit collisions between beam particles and gas targets, one of them being the Beam Gas Vertex monitor. By design, its operation generates secondary particle showers used to measure beam properties, that also result in radiation levels in the tunnel proportional to the beam intensity and gas pressure. Preliminary design of the FCC-ee vacuum chamber absorbers / Morrone, M (CERN) ; Garion, C (CERN) ; Kersevan, R (CERN) ; Rorison, S (CERN) ; Chiggiato, P (CERN)
In the FCC-ee study, it is proposed that electron and positron beams circulate at high current and high energy in a 92-km circumference ring. The present operational scenario foresees a first running step at an energy of 45.6 GeV and around 1.4 A current, which would generate copious amounts of synchrotron radiation (SR) power and flux. We present the latest development for the FCC-ee interaction region. It represents a major challenge for the FCC-ee collider, which has to achieve extremely high luminosity over a wide range of centre-of-mass energies. [...]

During 2022, a dedicated study was undertaken at CERN, together with FCC Feasibility Study collaborators, aimed at proposing a robust configuration for the FCC-ee arc half cell. The proposed configuration takes into account integration aspects of the elements in the arc cross section, both for the booster and the collider, as well as aspects related to powering, cooling and ventilation, supporting and alignment, optics, instrumentation, handling and installation.
