Exploring mixed lepton-quark interactions in non-resonant leptoquark production at the LHC / Gonçalves, João (Aveiro U. ; Lund U., Dept. Theor. Phys.) ; Morais, António P. (Aveiro U. ; CERN) ; Onofre, António (Minho U.) ; Pasechnik, Roman (Lund U., Dept. Theor. Phys.)
Searches for new physics (NP) at particle colliders typically involve multivariate analysis of kinematic distributions of final state particles produced in a decay of a hypothetical NP resonance. Since the pair-production cross-sections mediated by such resonances are strongly suppressed by the NP scale, this analysis becomes less relevant for NP searches for masses of the BSM resonance above 1 TeV. Gravitational waves from a scotogenic two-loop neutrino mass model / Bonilla, Cesar (Catolica del Norte U.) ; Carcamo Hernandez, A.E. (CCTVal, Valparaiso) ; Goncalves, Joao (U. Aveiro (main) ; Lund U.) ; K. N., Vishnudath (CCTVal, Valparaiso) ; Morais, Antonio P. (CERN ; Aveiro U.) ; Pasechnik, Roman (Lund U.)
We propose a framework to account for neutrino masses at the two-loop level. This mechanism introduces new scalars and Majorana fermions to the Standard Model. [...]

Deep Learning Searches for Vector-Like Leptons at the LHC and Electron/Muon Colliders / Morais, António P. (Aveiro U. ; U. Aveiro (main) ; CERN) ; Onofre, António (LIP, Minho) ; Freitas, Felipe F. (Aveiro U. ; U. Aveiro (main)) ; Gonçalves, João (Aveiro U. ; U. Aveiro (main)) ; Pasechnik, Roman (Lund U.) ; Santos, Rui (Lisbon U., CFTC ; Lisbon, ISEL)
The discovery potential of both singlet and doublet vector-like leptons (VLLs) at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) as well as at the not-so-far future muon and electron machines is explored. The focus is on a single production channel for LHC direct searches while double production signatures are proposed for the leptonic colliders. [...]

Anisotropy of the Electric Field Gradient in Two-Dimensional α-MoO$_3$ Investigated by $^{57}$Mn($^{57}$Fe) Emission Mössbauer Spectroscopy / Schell, Juliana (CERN ; Duisburg-Essen U.) ; Zyabkin, Dmitry (Ilmenau Tech. U.) ; Bharuth-Ram, Krish (KwaZulu Natal U.) ; Gonçalves, João N (Aveiro U.) ; Díaz-Guerra, Carlos (Madrid U.) ; Gunnlaugsson, Haraldur P (Iceland U.) ; Martín-Luengo, Aitana Tarazaga (Linz U.) ; Schaaf, Peter (Ilmenau Tech. Van der Waals α-MoO3 samples offer a wide range of attractive catalytic, electronic, and optical properties. We present herein an emission Mössbauer spectroscopy (eMS) study of the electric-field gradient (EFG) anisotropy in crystalline free-standing α-MoO3 samples. [...]

Interplay between flavor anomalies and neutrino properties / Freitas, Felipe F. (Aveiro U.) ; Gonçalves, João (Aveiro U.) ; Morais, António P. (Aveiro U. ; CERN) ; Pasechnik, Roman (Lund U., Dept. Theor. Phys. ; Lund U.) ; Porod, Werner (Wurzburg U.)
A minimal extension of the Standard Model (SM) featuring two scalar leptoquarks, an SU(2) doublet with hypercharge 1/6 and a singlet with hypercharge 1/3, is proposed as an economical benchmark model for studies of an interplay between flavour physics and properties of the neutrino sector. The presence of such type of leptoquarks radiatively generates neutrino masses and offers a simultaneous explanation for the current B-physics anomalies involving $b \to c \ell \nu_\ell$ decays. Collider phenomenology of new neutral scalars in a flavored multi-Higgs model / Ferreira, Pedro M. (Lisbon, ISEL ; Lisbon U., CFTC) ; Gonçalves, João (Aveiro U.) ; Morais, António P. (Aveiro U. ; CERN) ; Onofre, António (LIP, Minho) ; Pasechnik, Roman (Lund Observ. ; Lund U., Dept. Theor. Phys.) ; Vatellis, Vasileios (Aveiro U.)
In this work, we propose and explore for the first time a new collider signature of heavy neutral scalars typically found in many distinct classes of multi-Higgs models. This signature, particular relevant in the context of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) measurements, is based on a topology with two charged leptons and four jets arising from first and second generation quarks. Strong magnetoelectric coupling at an atomic nonmagnetic electromagnetic probe in bismuth ferrite / Schell, Juliana (CERN ; Duisburg-Essen U.) ; Schmuck, Merlin (Duisburg-Essen U.) ; Efe, İpek (Zurich, ETH) ; Dang, Thien Thanh (Duisburg-Essen U.) ; Gonçalves, João Nuno (Aveiro U.) ; Lewin, Daniil (Duisburg-Essen U.) ; Castillo, Marianela Escobar (Duisburg-Essen U.) ; Shvartsman, Vladimir V (Duisburg-Essen U.) ; Costa, Ângelo Rafael Granadeiro (CERN ; Lisbon, IST) ; Köster, Ulli (Laue-Langevin Inst.) et al.
Isolated nonmagnetic substitutional defect ions experience huge coupled electric magnetic interaction in the single-phase multiferroic BiFeO$_{3}$. In the ferroelectric state above the magnetic Néel temperature $T$$_{N}$, the electric environment generates a single symmetric electric field gradient (EFG) parallel to the electric polarization direction. Thermal annealing effects in polycrystalline EuTiO$_{3}$ and Eu$_{2}$Ti$_{2}$O$_{7}$ / IS611 Collaboration
Using time-differential perturbed angular correlation ofγrays, we investigated the electric-field gradient of polycrystalline EuTiO$_{3}$ and Eu$_{2}$Ti$_{2}$O$_{7}$, with $^{181}$Hf($^{181}$Ta) as a probe, following different thermal treatments. The measurements were performed at ISOLDE-CERN fol-lowing 80 keV implantation at the Bonn Radioisotope Separator. [...]

In the current work, we present an investigation of the electronic and defect structure in (TiO$_{2}$) rutile monocrystals by virtue of time differential perturbed angular $\gamma$ - $\gamma$ correlation spectroscopy. Studies were performed using $^{111m}$Cd, implanted at ISOLDE/CERN complemented with diffusion studies and density functional theory calculations. [...]

We present an ultra sensitive method to quantify the uptake of Hg by dithiocarbamate functionalized magnetic nanoparticles using radioactive tracker spectroscopy. We show a lower limit of detection of about 10 fg L-1, much lower than any other known techniques used to determine the uptake of Hg (about 104 more sensitive), without the need of digesting or processing the sorption agent.
