Operation of the LHC during the 2023 proton run / Calia, Andrea (CERN) ; Salvant, Benoit (CERN) ; Mirarchi, Daniele (CERN) ; Nisbet, David (CERN) ; Jacquet, Delphine (CERN) ; Métral, Elias (CERN) ; Bravin, Enrico (CERN) ; Trad, Georges (CERN) ; Wenninger, Jorg (CERN) ; Solfaroli, Matteo (CERN) et al.
In 2023 the LHC restarted after the yearly winter shutdown with a new machine configuration optimized for intensities of up to 1.8e+11 protons per bunch. In the first two months of the 2023 run the bunch intensities were pushed up to 1.6e+11 protons per bunch until a severe vacuum degradation, caused by a damaged RF bridge, occurred close to the ATLAS experiment. A Generic Real-Time Software in C++ for Digital Camera-Based Acquisition Systems at CERN / Topaloudis, Athanasios (CERN) ; Bravin, Enrico (CERN) ; Burger, Stephane (CERN) ; Jackson, Stephen (CERN) ; Mazzoni, Stefano (CERN) ; Poimenidou, Eirini (CERN) ; Senes, Eugenio (CERN)
Until recently, most of CERN’s beam visualisation systems have been based on increasingly obsolescent analogue cameras. Hence, there is an on-going campaign to replace old or install new digital equivalents. [...]

Development of a new CEDAR for kaon identification at the NA62 experiment at CERN / NA62 Collaboration
The NA62 experiment at CERN utilises a differential Cherenkov counter with achromatic ring focus (CEDAR) for tagging kaons within an unseparated monochromatic beam of charged hadrons. The CEDAR-H detector was developed to minimise the amount of material in the path of the beam by using hydrogen gas as the radiator medium. [...]

Recent LHC SR Interferometer Simulations and Experimental Results / Butti, Daniele (CERN ; Royal Holloway, U. of London) ; Bravin, Enrico (CERN) ; Gibson, Stephen (Royal Holloway, U. of London) ; Trad, Georges (CERN)
At the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC), among the different systems exploiting Synchrotron Radiation (SR) for beam diagnostics, interferometry is under study as a non-invasive technique for measuring absolute beam transverse sizes. Extensive numerical simulations, recently completed for characterising the spatial coherence of the LHC SR source, facilitated the optimisation of the LHC interferometer design and the existing prototype system tested in the past has been refurbished to include the new simulation findings. The Beam Rate of Neutrals (BRAN) is a monitor that provides a relative luminosity measurement for the four LHC experiments. BRANs are used during operations as a tool to find and optimise collision and to cross-check experiments luminosity monitors. [...]

Beam Induced Power Loss Estimation of a Movable Synchrotron Light Extraction Mirror for the LHC / Wendt, Manfred (CERN) ; Andreazza, William (CERN) ; Bravin, Enrico (CERN) ; Guillot-Vignot, Franck (CERN)
Beam instruments based on synchrotron light are an important part of the beam monitoring diagnostics suite in the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN. In frame of the high luminosity upgrade (HL-LHC) additional synchrotron light diagnostics are demanded, too many to be covered by the present Beam Synchrotron-light Radiation Telescope (BSRT), which utilizes a fixed light extraction mirror. New CERN SPS Beam Dump Imaging System / Burger, Stephane (CERN) ; Bravin, Enrico (CERN) ; Roncarolo, Federico (CERN) ; Topaloudis, Athanasios (CERN) ; Velotti, Francesco (CERN) ; Veyrunes, Eric (CERN)
As part of the LHC injector Upgrade (LIU), the CERN SPS is now equipped with a new Beam Dumping System (SBDS) designed to cope with the high power beams foreseen for the High Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) era. Before reaching the dump, the proton beam (from 26 to 450 GeV) is vertically kicked and then diluted passing through a series of horizontal and vertical bumps. [...]

Beam Profile Measurements as Part of the Safe and Efficient Operation of the New SPS Beam Dump System / Topaloudis, Athanasios (CERN) ; Bravin, Enrico (CERN) ; Burger, Stephane (CERN) ; Jackson, Stephen (CERN) ; Velotti, Francesco (CERN) ; Veyrunes, Eric (CERN)
In the framework of the LHC Injectors Upgrade (LIU) project, the Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS) accelerator at CERN is undergoing a profound upgrade including a new high-energy beam dump. The new Target Internal Dump Vertical Graphite (TIDVG#5) is designed to withstand an average dumped beam power as high as 235 kW to cope with the increased intensity and brightness of the LIU beams whose energies in the SPS range from 14 to 450 GeV. Chapter 13: Beam instrumentation and long-range beam–beam compensation / Jones, R (CERN) ; Bravin, Enrico (CERN) ; Lefevre, Thibault (CERN) ; Veness, Raymond (CERN)
The extensive array of beam instrumentation with which the LHC is equipped has played a major role in its commissioning, rapid intensity ramp-up and safe and reliable operation. Much of this equipment will need consolidation by the time the LHC enters the High-Luminosity (HL) era, while the upgrade itself brings a number of new challenges. The installation of a completely new final focus system in the two high-luminosity LHC insertions implies the development of new beam position monitors to equip the upgraded quadrupole magnets. [...]

Transverse Beam Profiles / Bravin, Enrico (CERN)
