Fiber optic sensors in the ATLAS Inner Detector
/ Scherino, L (CERN ; Sannio U.) ; Schioppa, E J (CERN ; INFN, Lecce) ; Arapova, A (Quebec U., INRS) ; Berruti, G M (Sannio U.) ; Bock, W J (Quebec U., INRS) ; Boniello, A (Sannio U.) ; Borriello, A (ENEA, Portici) ; Campopiano, S (Naples U.) ; Consales, M (Sannio U.) ; Cusano, A (Sannio U.) et al.
A prototype system of Fiber Optic Sensors (FOS) for the accurate measurement of temperature and relative humidity, has been installed inside the Inner Detector volume of the ATLAS experiment at the LHC. The goal is to evaluate the behavior of the technology against radiation effects, and possibly to assess its suitability for future collider experiments, starting from HL-LHC. [...]

Radiation Sensitivity of Long Period Gratings written in B-Ge doped fiber under proton irradiation at CERN
/ Berruti, Gaia Maria (CERN) ; Pimentel Das Neves, Tiago Filipe (CERN ; Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne) ; Consales, Marco (Sannio U.) ; Vaiano, Patrizio (Sannio U.) ; Quero, Giuseppe (Sannio U.) ; Petagna, Paolo (CERN) ; Cusano, Andrea (Sannio U.)
In this contribution, the response of a Long Period Grating (LPG) inscribed in a B/Ge co-doped optical fiber exposed to proton irradiation is presented for the first time to the best of our knowledge. The experiment was performed in the proton irradiation facility at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) and lasted 146 hours. [...]

A Comparative Study of Radiation-Tolerant Fiber Optic Sensors for Relative Humidity Monitoring in High-Radiation Environments at CERN
/ Berruti, G (CERN ; Sannio U.) ; Consales, M (Sannio U.) ; Borriello, A (CNR, IMCB) ; Giordano, M (CNR, IMCB) ; Buontempo, S (INFN, Naples) ; Makovec, A (Debrecen U.) ; Breglio, G (U. Naples (main)) ; Petagna, P (CERN) ; Cusano, A (Sannio U.)
In this paper, we report a comparative study of fiber optic sensors for applications of relative humidity (RH) monitoring in high-radiation environments. In particular, we present investigations carried out since 2011 by our multidisciplinary research group, in collaboration with the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) in Geneva. [...]

Analysis of uncoated LPGs written in B-Ge doped fiber under proton irradiation for sensing applications at CERN
/ Berruti, Gaia Maria (CERN ; Sannio U.) ; Vaiano, Patrizio (Sannio U.) ; Quero, Giuseppe (Sannio U.) ; Pimentel Das Neves, Tiago Filipe (CERN ; Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne) ; Boniello, Alessandra (Sannio U.) ; Consales, Marco (Sannio U.) ; Petagna, Paolo (CERN) ; Cusano, Andrea (Sannio U.)
In this contribution, a complete dissertation concerning the behavior of a Long Period Grating (LPG) inscribed in a B-Ge co-doped optical fiber by means of an excimer laser and exposed to proton irradiation during a recent extensive campaign performed at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) with a fluence of 4.4·10$^{15}$ p∙cm$^{−2}$ is provided. The experimental results have been thus combined for the first time to the best of our knowledge with numerical simulations in order to estimate the variations of the major parameters affecting the grating response during the ultra-high dose proton exposure. Experimental Study of Different Silicon Sensor Options for the Upgrade of the CMS Outer Tracker
/ Tracker Group of the CMS Collaboration
During the high-luminosity phase of the LHC (HL-LHC), planned to start around 2027, the accelerator is expected to deliver an instantaneous peak luminosity of up to $7.5\times10^{34}$ cm$^{-2}$s$^{-1}$. A total integrated luminosity of $3000$ or even $4000$~fb$^{-1}$ is foreseen to be delivered to the general purpose detectors ATLAS and CMS over a decade, thereby increasing the discovery potential of the LHC experiments significantly.
