LHC abort gap monitor electronics upgrade
/ Pacner, Petr (CERN) ; Belohrad, David (CERN) ; Martin Nieto, Miguel (CERN) ; Mazzoni, Stefano (CERN) ; Bart Pedersen, Stephane (CERN)
The LHC Abort Gap Monitor (AGM) is part of the LHC machine protection system (MPS) and is designed to measure the particle population in a 3µs wide region known as the "abort gap." This region needs to be kept empty to ensure safe beam dumps. The AGM captures the synchrotron light generated in the visible part of the spectra and converts it into an electric signal. [...]

SPS Fast Spill Monitor Characterisation and Evaluation Throughout 2023
/ Benitez Berrocal, Sara (CERN) ; Belohrad, David (CERN) ; Burger, Stephane (CERN) ; Goldblatt, Aurelie Noelle (CERN) ; Martin Nieto, Miguel (CERN) ; Mazzoni, Stefano (CERN) ; Roncarolo, Federico (CERN)
Monitoring the intensity of protons extracted from the CERN Super Proton Synchrotron )SPS) ring towards the North Area (NA) facility at a high rate is of utmost importance, with increasing challenges, for the the current facility operation, the ongoing NA consolidation, and the future Physics Beyond Colliders (PBC) projects. Various instruments are being developed to measure beam current fluctuations across a broad range of frequencies, from a few hundred Hz to several hundred MHz. [...]

The Digital Signal Processing Chain of the CERN LIU BWS
/ Belohrad, David (CERN) ; Emery, Jonathan (CERN) ; Esteban Felipe, Jose (CERN) ; Goldblatt, Aurélie (CERN) ; Guerrero, Ana (CERN) ; Martin Nieto, Miguel (CERN) ; Roncarolo, Federico (CERN)
Between 2019 and 2023, as part of the LHC Injectors Upgrade (LIU), a major renovation of the CERN wire scanners (BWS) was performed. The main driving force was to prepare the wire scanners for the High-Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC), during which the instantaneous luminosity is expected to double, to around 5× 10³⁴cm⁻²s⁻¹. [...]

Assessing the Performance of the New Beam Wire Scanners for the CERN LHC Injectors
/ Di Carlo, Salvatore (CERN) ; Andreazza, William (CERN) ; Belohrad, David (CERN) ; Emery, Jonathan (CERN) ; Esteban Felipe, Jose (CERN) ; Goldblatt, Aurélie (CERN) ; Gudkov, Dmitry (CERN) ; Guerrero, Ana (CERN) ; Jackson, Stephen (CERN) ; Lacarrere, Guillaume (CERN) et al.
Reliably measuring the transverse beam profile in the LHC injector chain is essential for the operation of the CERN accelerator complex. This report aims to assess the reliability, stability, and reproducibility of a new generation of beam wire scanners developed at CERN in the framework of the LHC Injectors Upgrade (LIU). [...]

Fast Spill Monitor Studies for the SPS Fixed Target Beams
/ Roncarolo, Federico (CERN) ; Arrutia Sota, Pablo Andreas (CERN) ; Belohrad, David (CERN) ; Bergamaschi, Michele (CERN) ; Calvo Giraldo, Eva (CERN) ; Effinger, Ewald (CERN) ; Fraser, Matthew (CERN) ; Kain, Verena (CERN) ; Martin Nieto, Miguel (CERN) ; Mazzoni, Stefano (CERN) et al.
At the CERN Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS) the proton beam is supplied to the fixed target experiments in the North Area facility (NA) via a slow extraction process, taking place at 400 GeV. The monitoring of the spill quality during the extraction, lasting 4.8 seconds with the present SPS setup, is of high interest for minimising beam losses and providing the users with uniform proton-on-target rates. The Beam Rate of Neutrals (BRAN) is a monitor that provides a relative luminosity measurement for the four LHC experiments. BRANs are used during operations as a tool to find and optimise collision and to cross-check experiments luminosity monitors. [...]

PSB H0-H⁻ Monitor Calibration and Commissioning
/ Navarro Fernandez, Araceli (CERN) ; Belohrad, David (CERN) ; Bracco, Chiara (CERN) ; Renner, Elisabeth (CERN) ; Roncarolo, Federico (CERN) ; Tassan-Viol, Jean (CERN)
During the LHC Long Shutdown 2 (LS2), the H⁻ LINAC4 replaced the proton LINAC2 as Proton Synchrotron Booster (PSB) injector. In each of the four PSB rings, the injection region was upgraded to accommodate the necessary elements for a proper H⁻ charge exchange injection systems. [...]

Commissioning of the LHC Injectors BWS Upgrade
/ Emery, Jonathan (CERN) ; Andreazza, William (CERN) ; Belohrad, David (CERN) ; Di Carlo, Salvatore (CERN) ; Esteban Felipe, Jose C (CERN) ; Goldblatt, Aurélie (CERN) ; Gudkov, Dmitry (CERN) ; Guerrero, Ana (CERN) ; Jackson, Stephen (CERN) ; Lacarrere, Guillaume O (CERN) et al.
A novel generation of fast Beam Wire Scanners (BWS), developed in the framework of the LHC Injectors Upgrade (LIU), has been recently deployed in the 3 LHC injector synchrotrons, accelerating protons from 160 MeV to 450 GeV, during the 2019-2020 LHC long shutdown. The monitors feature high precision motor controller, high resolution wire position monitoring and wide dynamic range secondary particles detectors. [...]

Commissioning the New CERN Beam Instrumentation Following the Upgrade of the LHC Injector Chain
/ Roncarolo, Federico (CERN) ; Bart Pedersen, Stephane (CERN) ; Belleman, Jeroen (CERN) ; Belohrad, David (CERN) ; Bozzolan, Michele (CERN) ; Bracco, Chiara (CERN) ; Di Carlo, Salvatore (CERN) ; Emery, Jonathan (CERN) ; Goldblatt, Aurélie (CERN) ; Guerrero, Ana (CERN) et al.
The LHC injectors Upgrade (LIU) program has been fully implemented during the second long shutdown (LS2), which took place in 2019-20. In this context, new or upgraded beam instrumentation was developed to cope with H⁻ beam in LINAC4 and the new Proton Synchrotron Booster (PSB) injection systems which would provide high brightness proton beams in the rest of the injector complex.
