An electron beam test stand has been designed and constructed at CERN as part of the High Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) project, in collaboration with the ARIES project, to test components related to the Hollow Electron Lens (HL-LHC) and the GSI Space Charge Compensation Electron Lens (ARIES). This comprehensive test facility incorporates normal conducting solenoid magnets, including horizontal and vertical correctors, which generate fields of fractional Tesla magnitude. [...]

DC and pulsed electron beam test facility at CERN / Rossi, Adriana (CERN) ; Kolehmainen, Antti (CERN) ; Churchman, Ashley (CERN) ; Perini, Diego (CERN) ; Guillot-Vignot, Franck (CERN) ; Wenander, Fredrik (CERN) ; Zhang, Hao (Liverpool U.) ; Cenede, Jean (CERN) ; Wendt, Manfred (CERN) ; Toscan du Plantier, Maxime (CERN) et al.
An electron beam test stand was designed and constructed at CERN, under the umbrella of the Hi-Lumi project, to tests components for the Hollow Electron Lens (HEL), and in collaboration with the ARIES project for testing the Space Charge Compensation gun. The test facility features normal conductive magnets providing solenoid fields of the order of fractions of Tesla, beam diagnostics including screens (YAG, Cromox and OTR) for the full electron beam characterisation, a Faraday Cup collector to measure the total electron current, and a high voltage power supply up to 40 kV (with the possibility of biasing both gun and collector). Third-Generation CERN n_TOF Spallation Target: Final Design and Examinations of Irradiated Prototype / Esposito, Raffaele (CERN ; Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne) ; Aberle, Oliver (CERN) ; Calviani, Marco (CERN) ; Coiffet, Thibaut (CERN) ; Crouvizier, Mickaël (CERN) ; Franqueira Ximenes, Rui (CERN) ; Maire, Vincent (CERN) ; Pérez Fontenla, Ana Teresa (CERN) ; Timmins, Marc (CERN)
The new neutron spallation target for the CERN neutron Time-Of-Flight (n_TOF) facility is based on a nitrogen-cooled Pb core impacted by short high-intensity proton beam pulses. An extensive material characterization campaign has been carried out to define the constitutive behavior of lead and assess its response under pulsed proton beam irradiation. [...]

Construction and Installation of the New CERN Proton Synchrotron Internal Beam Dumps / Andersen, Kristian G (CERN) ; Calviani, Marco (CERN) ; Cherif, Ahmed (CERN) ; Coiffet, Thibaut (CERN) ; De Macedo, Aurelio (CERN) ; Devidal, Sylvain (CERN) ; Geisser, Jean-Marie (CERN) ; Gilardoni, Simone S (CERN) ; Gillet, Martin (CERN) ; Grenier-Boley, Edouard (CERN) et al.
In the framework of the CERN Large Hadron Collider Injectors Upgrade (LIU) Project, the Proton Synchrotron (PS) has been equipped with two new movable Internal Dumps (PSID), each of them capable of absorbing particle beams of an energy of up to 100 kJ. These dumps replace the old Internal Dumps, which have been operated in the accelerator complex since their installation in 1975 until their decommissioning and removal from the machine during the second LHC Long Shut down (LS2). Design of the third-generation lead-based neutron spallation target for the neutron time-of-flight facility at CERN / n_TOF Collaboration
The neutron time-of-flight (n_TOF) facility at the European Laboratory for Particle Physics (CERN) is a pulsed white-spectrum neutron spallation source producing neutrons for two experimental areas: the Experimental Area 1 (EAR1), located 185 m horizontally from the target, and the Experimental Area 2 (EAR2), located 20 m above the target. The target, based on pure lead, is impacted by a high-intensity 20-GeV/c pulsed proton beam. [...]

Design, Prototyping Activities and Beam Irradiation Test for the New n_{TOF} Neutron Spallation Target / Esposito, Raffaele (CERN ; Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne) ; Bergeret, Marc (CERN) ; Busom, Josep (CERN) ; Butcher, Mark (CERN) ; Calviani, Marco (CERN) ; Cimmino, Roberta (CERN) ; Coiffet, Thibaut (CERN) ; Espadanal, Joao (CERN) ; Gentini, Luca (CERN) ; Illan Fiastre, Ricardo (CERN) et al.
A third-generation neutron spallation target for the neutron time-of-flight facility at CERN (n_{TOF}) is currently undergoing the design and prototyping stage. The new design aims at improving reliability, increasing beam intensity on target and avoiding issues encountered in the current generation target, in particular the contamination of the cooling system water with radioactive spallation products coming from washing out lead. Design of the New CERN n_TOF Neutron Spallation Target: R&D; and Prototyping Activities / Esposito, Raffaele (CERN) ; Beregret, Marc (UTBM, Belfort) ; Calviani, Marco (CERN) ; Coiffet, Thibaut (CERN) ; Delonca, Melanie (CERN) ; Dufay-Chanat, Laetitia (CERN) ; Gallay, Eugenie (CERN) ; Gomez Pereira, Laura (Vigo U.) ; Guinchard, Michael (CERN) ; Horvath, David (CERN) et al.
A new spallation target for the CERN neutron time-of-flight facility will be installed during Long Shutdown 2 (2019-2020), with the objective of improving operational reliability, avoiding water contamination of spallation products, corrosion/erosion and creep phenomena, as well as optimizing it for the 20 m distant vertical experimental area 2, whilst keeping the same physics performances of the current target at the 200 m far experimental area 1. Several solutions have been studied with FLUKA Monte Carlo simulations in order to find the optimal solution with respect to neutron fluence, photon background, resolution function, energy deposition and radiation damage.
