Dean. Just. Dean. Death, doom, or black from Brazil was a novelty in the later 1980s. Everyone did a second take when hearing of it. One wondered how four men who had almost no resources made it out. And then, decades later, you hear this and realise is it because they are brilliant songwriters and talented musicians. Igor is still easily the best musician of the lot, but a clear production that allows Max to be heard properly shows he is no slouch, either. Some wicked sick doom rhythms on display here. Favorite track: Troops Of Doom (Re-Recorded).

Ippocalyptica I worried about how these re-recordings of the early-period Sepultura albums by the Cavalera brothers would turn out, but my fears have evaporated. This is not an uninspired cash grab devoid of passion. Quite the contrary, the re-recordings exemplify everything that is glorious about these albums - the amazing thrash riffs, the barely-contained intensity, and a laser-focused songwriting approach - and makes it all better with beefier production. And we haven’t even hit the holy trilogy yet!!! Favorite track: Crucifixion (Re-Recorded).

IDE In general, re-recorded albums are often disappointing. However, this album is different. Instead of the unholy, sinister, and raw feel of the original version, the intensity and quality of the songs as Brackened Thrash Metal is extremely prominent.
We are forced to recognize that Morbid Visions is one of the strongest albums of its kind, even by today's standards. ★★

As modern CC albums go, this one's a grower, not a shower. But there's a lot to like in the unbeatable CC combination of ferocious performances, twisting riffs, and precise, intentional songwriting. Erik Rutan really comes into his own with atmospheric lead work, and his songs "Blood Blind" and "Drain You Empty", especially the epic doom intro of the latter, are highlights. fyeahmetal
