Currently on display in Drury Court after extensive conservation resides the highly theatrical and dramatic painting by , Nicholas Habbe, Britannia Rules the Waves. The 1876 allegorical genre painting draws on the artist’s experience as a theatre designer and incorporates a cast of sea nymphs, nereids and tritons surrounding a chariot as it forges its way across a churning sea. A winged baby riding a dolphin and an anxious-looking whale contribute to the scene.

Decolonising Geography challenges the reproduction of colonial practices of knowledge in our classrooms. It contributes to developing curricula that challenge ‘universal truths’ and objective knowledge in geography by offering pedagogical techniques to empower students to take responsibility in co-creating knowledge and building critical geographies; offering a space for reflection on the content we teach in secondary geography; and providing practical teaching resources.
