This 2001 Audi S4 Avant is finished in Brilliant Black with Onyx/Blue interior and just 1 of 25 delivered in this color combination as confirmed by Audi. The car has 169k miles and was acquired in 2012 by the seller, who has driven it 103k mostly highway miles on work trips throughout New England. Powered by a 2.7 liter V6 Biturbo paired with a 6-speed manual, this Avant carried a $40,500 MSRP when new. Modifications include a GIAC ECU flash, upgraded diverter valves, H&R Sport Lowering Coil Springs, Bilstein shocks, Milltek Cat Back exhaust, an auxiliary turbo pressure gauge, and RS4 mesh grill and shift knob. Services in the last two years include replacement of the timing belt, water pump, tensioner rollers/pulleys, new ignition coils, and a 4-wheel alignment. The car is now described as a strong runner with no current mechanical issues. It is sold with a clean Carfax showing 2 owners from new, extensive service records covering the seller’s 4 year ownership, and a clean Connecticut title.
The exterior remains in good driver-quality condition, with the Brilliant Black paint (A2A2) showing nice shine, and no prior accident repairs or repainting reported. The seller notes there are number of scuffs, scratches and chips to the paint, and has documented each notable blemish with an image in the photo gallery below. Also noted is one poor prior touch-up to the driver’s side C-pillar using SEM-black paint, and a few spots of stubborn tree sap on the hood and front fenders. The rear window tint has sustained a few nicks.
A two-bar Thule roof rack is fitted and included in the sale. The power moonroof is occasionally sluggish or sticks, but the seller reports can always be opened or closed as needed. The seller also notes some paint has been abraded from inner front fenders, resulting from the prior owner’s use of B6 S4 rims with incorrect wheel spacers.
This Avant rides on original 17″ Avus alloy wheels with center caps in place, all showing general wear, while two rims have significant curb rash and chips to the outer edges. Dunlap Winter Maxx tires are currently mounted all around and the seller indicates these are due for replacement.
The Onyx/Blue (AC) interior is in good condition for the mileage with blue alcantara inserts adding a cool visual accent. The seller notes a 1″ tear in driver’s seat bolster has been tended with a leather repair kit. The driver’s seat back mesh pocket is missing, and there are some scuffs to hard surfaces including the blue plastic inserts on the front doors. Carpets appear sound, with Audi Sport floor mats and pedal covers in front.
The seller notes all gauges and lighting are functioning correctly, including an aftermarket center console turbo boost gauge. The radio and later iPhone connector are both currently not working, and the cigarette lighter is missing. The rearview mirror is losing some of the night-mode reflective coating. The rear cargo area is clean, with lightly discolored but solid carpets. Plastic trim has been broken in several places, as shown in the gallery below, and the sliding cover is missing. The original rear ski bag remains fitted, and the seller reports the stowage container door can be difficult to close.
The 2.7L V6 30v Biturbo has variable intake valve timing, and was rated at 261hp when new. The seller notes under hood sound deadening material was removed by the prior owner, and the engine skid tray is missing. The 6-speed manual reportedly shifts well and the clutch said to have good feel and plenty of grab. Significant maintenance and upgrades during the seller’s ownership are listed in a photo gallery image and include:
- GIAC ECU flash – 2013
- Engine gaskets/seals replaced – 2013
- Front and rear upper/lower control arms replaced – 2013
- Bilstein shocks, H&R Sport Lowering Coil Springs – 2013
- Front/rear brake calipers replaced – 2013
- Front/rear brake rotors, pads, sensors replaced – 2014
- Milltek Cat Back exhaust – 2015
- Timing belt, water pump, tensioner rollers/pulleys replaced – 2015
- 4-wheel alignment – Oct-2016
- Ignition coils, by-pass valves replaced – Oct-2016
Surface corrosion is visible on some suspension components, seams of the newer exhaust system, and various clips and straps. The bottom of the front valance is scraped as shown above.
The accompanying Carfax is clean, shows no accident history and documents 2-owners from new. Just 852 6-speed manual S4 Avants were imported to the US for model year 2001, as confirmed by Audi in the document shown in the gallery below.
The seller has included a folder of service records covering maintenance and upgrades during his 4-year ownership.
This video includes start-up, walk around a short drive from the cabin of this S4.
