This 1982 Volkswagen Golf GTI is a European-market example that underwent a partial repaint and a rebuild of its 1.6-liter inline-four while in Italy, and it was imported to the US in 2023 for use as a demonstrator vehicle by wheel maker RML. Finished in Alpine White over black and red cloth upholstery, the car is equipped with a five-speed manual transaxle, KW coilovers, 15″ RML Snowflake wheels, front disc brakes, and an IMASAF exhaust system in addition to a sunroof, a rear window wiper, a heater, and a cassette stereo. Acquired by the selling dealer in May 2024, this Golf GTI shows 183k kilometers (~114k miles) and is now offered in Illinois with a clean Carfax report and a clean Maryland title listing the model year as 1981.
The car is finished in Alpine White (L90E), and the front end and engine bay were repainted under prior ownership. Exterior details include a red-framed grille, a front spoiler, black trim, a sunroof, dual side mirrors, and a rear window wiper. Close-up photos of the finish and trim are provided in the gallery below.
Snowflake-style 15″ RML wheels are wrapped in 195/45 Toyo Extensa HP tires. KW coilovers have been fitted, as have a Eurosport front strut-tower brace and stabilizer bar.
The front bucket seats and the rear bench are upholstered in black cloth with red accents. Additional appointments include a dimpled shift knob, a heater, a cassette stereo, and a rear window defroster.
The four-spoke steering wheel frames a 220-km/h speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, and gauges for fuel level and coolant temperature, while an oil-temperature gauge is housed in the center console. The mechanical six-digit odometer shows 183k kilometers (~114k miles), approximately 100 of which were added under current ownership.
The fuel-injected 1.6-liter inline-four was rebuilt under prior ownership and fitted with an IMASAF exhaust system. The engine oil was most recently changed in October 2024.
Power is delivered to the front wheels via a five-speed manual transaxle. The underside pinch weld is dented, just aft of the left-front wheel opening.
Additional photos taken during the paint and engine work can be viewed in the gallery.
The Carfax report indicates no accidents or damage and lists history in Maryland.
