1980 Fiat Spider 2000
This 1980 Fiat Spider 2000 was refurbished following its purchase by the seller in October 2022. Work included fitting the 2.0-liter inline-four with a replacement cylinder head, rebuilding its fueling, cooling, and ignition systems, fitting an ANSA exhaust, Koni shocks, and progressive-rate lowering springs, and overhauling the brake system. The cabin features a beige over brown color scheme with reupholstered leather, power windows, an Alpine sound system, and a custom oak-trimmed dashboard with hideaway cupholders as well as a matching oak-trimmed shift knob and factory Ferrero steering wheel. Following the refurbishment, the car has been displayed at car shows, including the 2024 Hillsborough Concours d’Elegance and Radwood San Francisco 2024. This Spider 2000 is now offered with the owner’s manual, service records, toolkit, a spare set of wheels, other spare parts and accessories, a June 2023 smog certificate, and a clean California title in the seller’s name.
The car was refinished in its current shade of silver circa 2015, and a paint correction and paintless dent repair were carried out within the last year. Exterior details include a chromed luggage rack, a locking fuel cap, Carello H4 headlights, and a beige Robbins convertible top. The front spoiler was replaced under current ownership. Imperfections include missing rubber seals on the vent windows, a sagging upper hinge on the left door, and misalignment of the trunk lid.
Auto Ricambi-sourced 15″ Competizione wheels were mounted with Dunlop Direzza ZIII tires in 2024. The suspension has been rebuilt and modified with Koni shocks and progressive-rate lowering springs. The front control arms were fitted with replacement bushings and ball joints, and the center steering link, tie rods, and steering idler have been replaced. An alignment was subsequently performed. An overhaul of the brake system included replacing the master cylinder, rebuilding the brake calipers, and fitting EBC Greenstuff brake pads in addition to changing the brake rotors and lines.
The cabin has been reupholstered in beige leather, and the analog clock and power window mechanisms were rebuilt. The two-piece dashboard was finished with oak trim and features hideaway cupholders. The shift knob and factory Ferrero steering wheel were also redone in matching oak. An Alpine head unit and 7″ speakers replaced the factory system, and the rear-view mirror was also replaced. Pininfarina-embroidered floor mats are placed over the factory carpet. Notable imperfections include cracks in the dashboard, wear on the left seat, and a tear on the left sun visor.
The five-digit odometer shows 15k miles and has rolled over once, per the seller. Approximately 2,400 miles have been added under current ownership. The speedometer cable was replaced in June 2024.
The 2.0-liter inline-four was fitted with a replacement cylinder head noted to have been sourced from Midwest-Bayless Italian Auto, and the process also included adjusting the valves, rebuilding the fuel-injection system, fitting silicone vacuum lines, and changing the fluids. The car most recently passed a California emissions inspection in June 2023. Additional work during the last three years has included replacing the:
- timing belt, alternator belt, and timing tensioner
- water pump, radiator, coolant hoses, and thermostat
- ignition components
- various gaskets and seals
- air, oil, and fuel filters
- airflow meter
- exhaust manifold
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transmission. The gear oil was replaced and the clutch cable was adjusted in November 2022. An ANSA exhaust was installed along with replacement muffler brackets and hangers.
The sale includes a spare set of wheels, service records, literature, and other spare parts and accessories as shown in the gallery below.
