This 1962 Chevrolet Corvette was delivered new to LB Hartman Inc. of Salamanca, New York, and refurbished before being exported to Canada following its acquisition by the seller in 2001. Power is provided by a 327ci V8 linked with a four-speed manual transmission and a PosiTraction differential with 4.11:1 gearing, and the car is finished in red over color-keyed vinyl upholstery. Equipment includes a body-color removable hardtop, a white soft top, a Wonderbar AM radio, and 15″ steel wheels with simulated knock-off spinner covers. The car spent 18 months on display at the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky, and has been the recipient of multiple accolades, including a Bloomington Gold, Duntov Mark of Excellence, NCRS Top Flight, Gold Spinner, and Triple Crown awards in 1998 and 2000. This C1 is now offered with a car cover, framed awards certificates, judging sheets, manufacturer’s literature, and British Columbia registration in the seller’s name.
The fiberglass bodywork was factory-finished in Roman Red (923) and was repainted as part of the aforementioned refurbishment. Features include a body-color removable hardtop, a white soft top, color-matched coves, quad headlights, and dual exhausts.
The 15″ steel wheels wear bright covers with faux knock-off spinners and are mounted with older BFGoodrich Silvertown white-stripe tires. A full-size spare is found in the trunk. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel drums.
The bucket seats are upholstered in red vinyl and joined by color-coordinated carpets and door panels. Interior equipment includes a dash-mounted rearview mirror, a Wonder Bar radio, a reverse-lockout shifter, and an analog clock that is said to run slow.
The three-spoke steering wheel frames a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 6,600-rpm redline as well as gauges for coolant temperature, amperage, oil pressure, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 1,100 miles, around 900 of which have been added by the seller. Total mileage is unknown.
The 327ci V8 was factory equipped with a four-barrel carburetor and a high-lift camshaft for a rating of 340 horsepower when new. Details include a chrome ignition cover and air cleaner lid along with finned Corvette-script valve covers. The seller notes that the battery is weak.
The engine stamp pad is displayed above. The RE suffix is consistent with a 327ci V8 rated at 340 horsepower and designated for a 1962 Corvette with a four-barrel carburetor, a high-lift camshaft, and a manual transmission.
Power is routed to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission and a PosiTraction differential with 4.11:1 gears.
Correspondence from NCRS is included in the sale along with a reproduction window sticker, a fitted car cover, and judging sheets.
The car was given the Duntov Mark of Excellence Award at the 2000 NCRS National Convention along with various Top Flight and Triple Crown awards that are displayed in the gallery.
