Krystal Duran on Instagram: "Orchid are epiphytes. They grow on top of other plants and are not anchored in the soil. Epiphytes take up their nutrients from water, air, and debris around them.

Living in Indiana, fall and winter temperatures get less than 55 degrees consistently which would prevent us from being able to anchor orchids or other plants to trees so this will just have to do.

When choosing a board, choose one that is rot resistant. I used cork bark since it doesn’t rot but it’s also very easy to make holes in. It’s fairly plyable.

Hang in a spot that will get light, water the moss when it’s almost dry, and you can incorporate liquid orchid fertilizer in the water when blooms fall off.

Now we can live our orchid hanging dreams… inside 🌸

Raffaele Di Lallo on Instagram: "💁🏻‍♂️Some more orchid repotting tips! Clear pots are great for orchids (check out my “orchid pots” link in my profile for my amazon store where you can get various sizes). Clear pots are great to see the health of the orchid root system, and because they do perform some photosynthesize for the plant. In my greenhouse, I leave the pots exposed, but indoors in the house, I slip them in ceramic pots for aesthetic purposes. A great time to repot is after your orchid has finished blooming. In this case in my reel, this plant did not bloom unlike most of my other Phalaenopsis orchids at the time of publishing this reel, so now is a great time because days are getting longer and plants are waking up and getting ready to start to grow new leaves and roots. Most of my adult life, I have coveted greenhouses. I think I may have inherited a genetic love of sticking my hands in dirt from my maternal grandmother. I understand that her gardens were spectacular, and according to my mother, she would much rather be out tending her beds than cleaning or cooking. I wonder what she wore?? I tend to garden in old shorts and tees and be covered in dirt. I cannot imagine her wearing anything other than long dark dresses and practical shoes, if old black and…

For a pretty display on my kitchen table, I decided to "kopy kat" an idea I saw in the January issue of "Better Homes and Gardens" magazine. The article explains how to put orchids creatively in tall vases. An orchid expert tells how to keep the orchids' roots healthy while they are in the vases. I have been downsizing my vase collection so I don't have the straight-sided vases that I used to. I did find three former (spigots are broken) clear glass drink dispensers in the attic. I turned…
