Dear Fremont Voters, I am excited to announce my candidacy for re-election to the Fremont City Council in District 6 -Irvington Area.

Thank you for your continued support for 16 years, serving 4 years as Current Fremont Councilmember District 6 - Irvington and 12 years as former Ohlone College Trustee! There is still more to do to keep Fremont a city for all people!

Despite losing my schoolteacher parents at an early age, I graduated from Northwestern University as the first African-American woman in the United States to earn a degree in Nuclear Engineering and MBA Degree.

I was appointed during the Obama Administration and re-appointed in the last 2 Presidential Administrations serving on the California District Export Council on Small and Minority Businesses.

As former Chair of the Fremont Economic Development Advisory Commission, I’ve supported small businesses, local job creation, and led international trade missions.

Professionally, Teresa has worked for Fortune 500 high-tech companies in Silicon Valley, such as Lam Research, LinkedIn, Salesforce, and Facebook.

I will continue to bring a unique voice to City Council for greater collaborations between the city, county, state, federal, and schools, champion for good-paying jobs, economic relief, scholarships, quality parks and community centers, and a safe environment.

I am committed to working hard for all Fremont residents to build a better community together.

• As the current Fremont Councilmember and as I run for re-election, I championed for public safety by leading the clean-up efforts of 30 RV encampments around Hirsch Elementary and Horner Middle Schools and 5 at Irvington Community Park.
• I supported affordable housing for the Doug Ford Senior Housing in our Irvington district.  Initiated flag-raising ceremony policy to encourage diversity, equity, and inclusion for everyone.  Hosted and sponsored 4 National Night Out events to promote public safety and neighborhood relations with Fremont Police and Fremont Fire.  Collaborated with our state officials resulted in the award of $16.5 million dollars to the City of Fremont.
• I am honored to have received endorsements from the Fremont Police Association, Fremont Firefighters, Alameda County Building Trades Council, Alameda Labor Council, DAWN, APA Dem Caucus as well as many community leaders and organizations. I will continue to bring a unique voice to City Council to foster greater collaborations between the city, county, state, federal, and schools. I will champion public safety, good-paying jobs, scholarships, quality parks, and community centers to create a safe environment. I am the only female and candidate in this race with the experience that allows me to hit the ground running once re-elected. I am committed to working hard for all Fremont residents to build a better community together.

I am incredibly grateful for having a wonderful mother who unconditionally dedicated herself to us throughout my life. She was the most inspiring and courageous person I have ever known.

My father passed away when I was nine years old, and my mother raised my two brothers and me on a school teacher’s salary. She instilled the value of education and the importance of giving back to the community.

My mother was a community leader, involved in various organizations. She fundraised for college scholarships, promoted education in the arts at the philharmonic orchestra and ballet, and served on arts boards. She also organized numerous events to raise awareness about voting issues and advocated for women's rights, including family leave and equal pay as the President of the Teachers' Union.

I owe so much to my mother and stand on her shoulders.

I am dedicated to working diligently for all Fremont residents to construct a stronger community together. Leadership, Community Engagement, Critical Thinking, Problem-Solving, Strong Communications, Integrity, Honesty, Collaboration, Resourcefulness, and Inclusivity are crucial qualities for an elected official.

For the City Councilmembers, the most helpful skills and expertise would likely include strong communication abilities, critical thinking, problem-solving skills, adaptability, leadership qualities, negotiation skills, the ability to build relationships, and a deep understanding of the relevant field or industry, allowing them to make informed decisions and effectively guide their team.

A City Councilmember stands out as a unique and vital part of the local government due to its deep community engagement, focus on grassroots initiatives, and direct accessibility to residents, allowing them to actively participate in decision-making processes that directly impact their neighborhoods, fostering a strong sense of ownership and accountability within the community.
