Paul Walton

Paul Walton currently serves as Mayor of Hull in Madison County Georgia where he is the first African American to do so, and he was also the first Black elected to that city’s council with over 6 years of government experience. Although being a California native; he`s lived in Georgia over 25 years. He attended Los Angeles Community College to study Psychology and Athens Technical College to study Business Management. While growing up in Los Angeles in some of the toughest communities and being bused to wealthy schools, he got a chance to see how people live on both sides in different communities and decided that civil service was in his heart. He has received numerous community service awards both in the private sector and public. Since his service as Mayor, his city has been recognized by the Georgia Municipal Association as a City of Ethics. He was recently awarded with a Certificate of Recognition and Achievement for his dedicated hours of government training. He is scheduled to receive his Certificate of Excellence from Robert E. Knox, Jr. Leadership Institute. His wife Marilyn of 19 years has 5 sons; two serve in the Air Force and Army.

• The first one is to form a more perfect union. All of us have common interests whether Democrat or Republican or Independent. I want to focus on those common interests not on those divisive words, misinformation and party labels that are thrown around.
• We all have a common interest in Health Care. Number five of the goals of the Constitution is to promote General welfare. Some people think of this as Socialism, but they confuse socialism with Fascism because so many socialistic countries are ruled by a Fascist government. One party, one leader. But everyone having access to healthcare is not socialistic. Bismarck introduced universal healthcare in Germany early in the 20th century and Bismarck was no socialist. The point is that there are many ways to achieve the goal of promoting general welfare.
• You should vote for me because I will work to meet our common interests in a way that supports the goals of the Constitution. And I am also like you. I have to work for a living. I have to support a family. I have to be sure my children are educated and able to survive as adults. I have to pay taxes. I have to seek medical treatment from time to time and pay for prescriptions. The House of Representatives is called The People’s House because it is supposed to be made up of us. You and I. Support me because I am one of us and know why our Constitution was written and what it is instructing us to do.

I look up to President Barack Obama. He has a willingness to do what is right for you and showed tremendous patience especially having to deal with an obstructionist congress. He has a sense of right an wrong and common sense which is my campaign slogan "Common Sense".
He was able to listen and debate an opinion that is different or opposite his opinion. He has lead the fight for the middle and lower classes against the interests of the richest.

I would have to say honesty, integrity, humility, courage and compassion. Overall ethics, independence, transparency, integrity, competence and fairness. Last but not least, you have to be a great deal maker.

After my tenure as a city council member for 3 years and a current Mayor for almost 4 and with over 159 hours of government training from the Georgia Municipal Association in conjunction with the University of Georgia Carl Vinson Institute of Government, I have a great knowledge of government operations. It has taught me how to establish leadership priorities to maximize my effectiveness. I have been able to serve as a model for the U.S. democracy, culture, values, and conduct. I will be able to uphold the Constitution.

By being the first black person elected as a Councilmember and then first black to become Mayor in my city and striving to be U.S. Congressman in NE Georgia, that all things are possible.

My first job was at a printing company making flyers when I was sixteen. It was a summer job so I only had it for a couple of months. I was the only one on the block to have a job that young and it made me very proud and the following year more of my peers decided to work in the summer.

Overcoming Imposter Syndrome.

The House has several powers assigned exclusively to it, including the power to initiate revenue bills, impeach federal officials, and elect the President in the case of an Electoral College tie. The founders wanted the House to be the legislative chamber closest to the people. Under these reasonable limitations, the door of this part of the federal government is open to merit of every description, whether native or adoptive, whether young or old, and without regard to poverty or wealth, or to any particular profession of religious faith.

Everyone has to start somewhere. One may have experience at something but it does not necessarily mean that they are good at it. The majority of representatives learn on the job their duties and responsibilities.

Jobs and education, economic inequality, an aging population with health problems, climate change and energy needs. The United States is lacking in competition with Brazil, Russia, India, and China which I fell will become more dominant in the future. China now has the world’s second largest economy after the United States and has a modern infrastructure.

More than 60 percent of Republicans and Democrats support the adoption of federal term limits, recognizing that the Congressional Incumbents Club is a paradigm of careerism, combining power, stature and influence with lavish benefits: a high salary; unparalleled business connections; limited working days; spectacular working conditions; periodic taxpayer-funded fact-finding trips; a sizable staff (that could include family and friends); exceptional medical, dental and retirement benefits; weakened insider trading rules; taxpayer funded legal expenses; the ability to moonlight at other jobs; free flights back and forth to the lawmaker's home state; a family death gratuity; and free parking.
Term limits would bring new perspectives to Congress, encouraging those with fresh ideas to run for office. Term limits also would diminish incentives for election-related spending that have proliferated in the careerist Congress (especially following the Supreme Court's 2010 decision validating the solicitation and receipt of unlimited campaign contributions).
