I was born and raised in San Diego and I absolutely love California - our people, our places, and our dreams. I live with my seven year old daughter in Hillcrest, not far from many family members including my 94 year old grandmother.

I am a licensed midwife and lactation consultant and I love providing reproductive health care, prenatal care, delivering babies, and working with families postpartum. After working with hundreds of families, I've found that some of their biggest concerns are not morning sickness and backaches but rather high rents, low wages, inadequate health care coverage, and fear about their children's future in a changing climate. I've worked in community clinics, homes, and birth centers around San Diego county, learning to listen carefully to my patients and advocate for their needs.

As the vice president and policy chair of the California Association of Midwives I lobbied for all families to be able to access midwives, and achieved critical legislative victories for childbearing women.

Growing up in and around my family's store, Mattress World & Al Davis Furniture, I understand the life of a small business owner. After obtaining my license to practice as a midwife, I co-founded Birth Roots Women's Health & Maternity Center in Chula Vista. I ventured into green business and sustainability with Simple Diaper Service, a cloth diaper laundry and delivery service.

  • I'm fighting for justice in healthcare, housing, and climate.
  • I've spent my career empowering women and girls, and I will continue the work at the state Capitol.
  • My campaign is made possible by regular people, not big corporate donors.

Healthcare - As a women's health care provider I know how demoralizing it is when patients are denied care by their insurance companies. As a businesswoman, I know how difficult it is to deal with unpredictable health insurance rates. As a patient, I experienced the shock of a $95,000 hospital bill after my daughter was born. I was lucky to be insured at the time, but we must change our healthcare system so no one suffers massive debt from medical bills.

Housing - A safe home is a human right. We can and should build truly affordable housing, close to jobs and transit. I support state investment in beautiful, climate friendly public housing to rapidly build the homes we need.

Climate - The impact of greenhouse gas emissions is happening now. We must further reduce carbon emissions by restructuring our economy with renewable energy and transportation. We need to create green jobs in energy, agriculture, and climate adaptation and invest in our future.

Maternal child health - The United States has unacceptably high infant and maternal mortality rates. California can support access to midwives, doulas, culturally concordant care, birth centers, and other evidence based interventions to improve the health and well being of our mothers and infants.

Parable of the Sower and Parable of the Talents by Octavia Butler. I read these books 20 years ago, and they predicted our current state of affairs perfectly.

My daughter's favorite song is Vivir Mi Vida by Marc Anthony, and I have to listen to it on repeat in the car, so it definitely gets stuck in my head.
