I am a mother, wife, daughter, and sister. My family is so important to me and provides me with the strength and courage to live everyday to my best. I consider myself to be a good friend also. I moved from Evansville to Indianapolis to study at Butler University and IUPUI. After moving off the Butler campus, I rented in Speedway, IN and fell in love with the community.

Community Question Featured local question

Implement the complete streets policy that I supported in 2022. The policy defines a complete street as a street that allows safe access for all users, including pedestrians, bicyclists, motorists, and public transportation users of alleges and abilities. Complete streets promote access, mobility, and healthy lifestyles by making streets and bridges more convenient. Incorporating bike lines, multi-use paths, and greenways also helps meet this goal.

Public safety and response.
Infrastructure/ sidewalks, trails, and streets.
Economic development on the west side.
Re-entry job training.
Parks and Recreation.

Being trustworthy and honest.
Being respectful.
Being accountable and fair.
Having integrity.
Speak the truth.
Follow the golden rule.

My ability to leverage and use my voice to advocate for other people. I fight and advocate and refuse to back down until there is an acceptable resolution. My ability to jump in to help in a crisis and use my problem-solving skills to solve issues and problems that arise quickly and in real-time.

The Oklahoma City Bombing which occurred in April, 1995. I was
turning 14 later that month. There were over 150 killed and hundreds injured including children.
It was just so overwhelming to watch the television coverage and listen to the survivors. The
fact that US citizens committed this disaster was the first time I had heard the words Domestic
Terrorism. Just really hard for a teenager to understand how this could happen. Four years later,
in April also, was the Columbine shooting. As I was getting ready to graduate from high school,
it was so hard for me to fatham that this could happen in a high school. Unfortunately, it now
seems to be an occurrence that happens far too often.

I would say my first “real” job was
working in the student services office at the School of Engineering at IUPUI. My main
responsibility was new student recruitment. But, I also worked closely with and supported
students once they began attending the University. This position directly led to my current
position as the Engineering Dual Degree Program Academic Coordinator (Dual Degree with
School of Engineering at IUPUI). There was an opening and my position at IUPUI was part-
time. After starting at IUPUI in 2005 I transitioned to a new position in 2007 and I am still
working there. So, 18 years.

Listen with an open mind. As an elected official, I understand that I represent everyone
in my district, not just those who voted for me. It is important to listen to what everyone
has to say with an open mind and understanding. I need to understand their concerns and
issues from their perspective.

Be present. It is important to attend all meetings including committee meetings. Always

be attentive. It is important to be out and about in my district and also, meeting residents in
my district where they are.

It is important to be financially responsible. I am responsible for the tax dollars paid by

my residents. I need to make sure that funds are allocated fairly and responsibly. Always
thinking, about what I can do to make my district and the city a better place to live for
everyone.

Communication. I need to communicate with my peers in the City-County Council, with

the Mayor's office, and with the residents of my district. This goes hand in hand with
listening. The ability to explain decisions is important. The ability to understand
another’s viewpoint is important.
Be Fair.
The ability to compromise. There are so many needs and wants, but not all can be
supported/funded. Compromise cannot be done fairly without all of the above.
Being responsible for the environment.
